After 1 year with Ubuntu I still can t make out how to install from source even if I use the commands given by others since allways something happens. To the point... I downloaded the beta amarok to try it... seems that installation of this is kinda different. Tried to read the install file which only gives a "try these 2 sites to see how to install it". One site is dead at the moment. The other site (http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/2.0_Development_HowTo) gives some commands which when followed gives me this message..
bash: kde4-config: command not found CMake Error: ERROR: Could not find KDE4 kde4-config -- Configuring done Any help? |

Found out a way to get it but it crashes on every start up. I get the splash screen I get the interface but then it crashes with the message
The application AmaroK (amarok) crashed and caused the signal 6 (SIGABRT). Please help us improve the software you use by filing a report at http://bugs.kde.org. Useful details include how to reproduce the error, documents that were loaded, etc. This backtrace appears to be of no use. This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash. (no debugging symbols found) |

Is there are particular reason you want to compile from source rather than using the beta2 package that is provided?

Since the ready-made answers on different question don t really add anything, I will ask for help again. Beta2 of Amarok still crashes while (i think) it s trying to create a library in the beginning. Using Ubuntu 8.04. Should I uninstall the previous Amarok before adding the new one?
Any help? |

What version of Ubuntu are you using ?
I got it installed on my Intrepid Ibis 8.10 by adding this "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu intrepid main universe multiverse restricted" to my repositories and using synaptic. ![]() |

Still using the 8.04. I also got it from synaptic. Found it as amarok-kde4 or something like that. I don't know if it's a great idea but since it's synaptic i guess it should be correct. Hasn't worked yet though as it crashes all the time. Had to uninstall it.
