Hello,

I've installed recently AMAROK on Ubuntu 8.04. My hardware consists basically of:

- Brandnew IntelATOM 330 CPU with 2x 1,6 GHz
- 2 GB of RAM
- 500 GB Serial-ATA HDD

Ubuntu as well as AMAROK Runs quite well until i try to query the Song Database.

  amarok -v
  Qt: 3.3.8b
  KDE: 3.5.10
  Amarok: 1.4.9.1

I used MYSQL since I'm having a huge collection of more than 40k songs. The installation wizard told me to do so and so i set up a MYSQL database. Everything is working fine but as soon as i start searching a song, the database takes 3-4 seconds to show me the results. The Processor jumps up to 100% load in that time.

Can it be that a 1,6 GHz Dualcore CPU is not able to process that queries faster?
Can I somehow tune AMAROK or the MYSQL Database to get faster responses?
I already tried to find similar issues using the search function of this forum but patently there aren't many speed issues using MYSQL.

Any help is very appreciated! If you need any further informations, just drop me a line and I will provide them ASAP.

Thanx & kind Regards

Abraxas

How do you search for songs in Amarok? In the collection browser, or by loading the whole collection into your playlist and then searching there?

If you do the latter, it's something you absolutely shouldn't do. Playlist search was never meant to deal with 40k tracks, and will definitely be slow. Collection search however (if you are really using MySQL in Amarok) should be fast anyway.

Hi Mark,

I see what you mean but I really have a small playlist that consists of about 20 songs and I am searching by selecting "collection" on the left hand side and then entering the song that I am searching for in the field above (or below - I'm not sure) the drop-down showing "entire collection". I'm a new user but I'm pretty sure that I use the collection browser.

Any further hints or recommendations?

THX
