The main question about any media player is playing MP3s.
And it is desirable to have official up to date clear instructions exhausting the subject in the attached README itself. Instead of this README from amarok-1.4.10.tar.bz2 has section OTHER-FAQS: For answers to problems like "Amarok won't play any MP3s!" and "My MP3s skip and stutter!" please visit: http://amarok.kde.org/ ---------------------------------- Searching this forum has brought mixed stuff stacked over years (might some of it dated?) related different distros and multimedia frameworks but has left me unsure about what exactly I need to get MP3 support in my case: distro: based on RHEL 5 framework: xine-lib I would greatly appreciate your kind help, Aleck |

I just installed Amarok on Centos 5.3 and it cannot play MP3s.
I get some message about "no suitable demux plugin", and googling has brought me here. So how do I fix this? One reference I got from google says that some distributions cripple xine-lib, but it did not say which ones. I have this : xine-lib-1.1.16.3-2.el5.1 Do I need to remove it and reinstall from elsewhere? If so, from where? I have rpmfusion installed |

Aha, it seems that in addition to xine-lib-extras-freeworld I needed to restart KDE
So, got it working! Great program folks! When I get home I'm going to see if I can get it going on OpenSolaris |
