Used Amarok on my old laptop and loved it - the best audio player out there.
Now I have a new laptop (System76) running 64-bit Intrepid and I just cannot get Amarok 1.4.10 going at all. I have music in my /home/Music folder but when the scan is completed in Amarok, nothing shows in my collection. I have tried deleting the contents of ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok and the amarokrc file, uninstalling and reinstalling but still the same results. I have also tried SQLite and MySQL databases. Has anyone got a fix for this as I really love amarok and do not want to use another player!

That's certainly odd. Amarok itself runs just fine on 64bit systems, so that can't be the problem. Maybe if you use a strange filesystem for your music, that could be an issue.
Or if your $HOME is mounted via NFS, then SQLite won't work. But all this is in our FAQ, you might want to check that.

Thanks for the reply.
The filesystem type is ext3 and all other audio players that I have tried work fine (Banshee, Rhythmnbox, Exaile). Do not use NFS and would not think that the filesystem type is the problem. Where is the FAQ located? I will check that first. Any other ideas? I really want to get Amarok working!

Check that you have appropriate support for whatever format your music files are.

All my music files are OGG format and are .oga files. Where do I check to see if that format is supported.
Weird that I built another laptop from scratch with Intrepid 8.10 and the very first thing I installed was Amarok with sudo apt-get install amarok and I get exactly the same result. It seems to me that I am doing something fundamentally wrong, but cannot work out what it is!!!??? |

OK. I ran the entire Intrepid 8.10 64-bit install again from scratch and even followed the 'How to build a perfect desktop' howto on howtoforge.com - which includes the install of Amarok - to the letter. Ripped a CD using SoundJuicer, fired up Amarok, scanned the collection (of one CD!) and...nothing happens... collection still empty.
Very frustrating! I am now going to try the same with a 8.04 install, which I had on my old laptop and Amarok worked with no problems. Question: What additional sqlite packages, if any, do I need. Also, are there any KDE-related packages I need to get Amarok going? |

Solved!
Found a list of mandatory dependencies and optional packages on the Amarok wiki and installed them. Reinstalled Amarok and used K3B instead of SoundJuicer to rip my CDs in OGG format and now everything appearing in my collection. Very happy to have Amarok back! How do I mark this thread as 'SOLVED'? |
