Hi people. I recently got my daughter an iPod Nano 4th gen 8GB (A1285) and thought I would put some music on for her. Basically, it works just fine, it's detected straight away, I can transfer songs and delete them without any hiccups. The only problem I found is transferring album art which seem to appear corrupted on the iPod at the main menu at the bottom of the screen (some sort of marquee thing) and do not show at all while browsing music or playing a track. I've tried using gtkpod to set the model number as currently the 4th gen is not in the provided list in Amarok but same problem.
I noticed on the amarok wiki it says that the 4th gen is unknown to be working, well I can confirm it works for the most part, at least you can manage the music, just not the art. I'm running Kubuntu Intrepid which includes Amarok 1.4.10 and libgpod is 0.6.0. Is it worth getting in touch with the libgpod guys?

It seems support for the 4th gen nano's in libgpod SVN. I guess I should have checked it first, but on the other hand, at least others know support is on it's way
![]() Update: Tested with libgpod latest SVN and it works

Support for the nano 4th is indeed in the SVN version of libgpod.
However, i compiled libgpod (0.6.1SVN) and amarok from source. But it still wont update the artwork correctly. Although amarok now (even with the packaged debian version (1.4.10)) knows the nano 4th 16Gb it wont update the cover art. Pressing 'the update covert art' button only does something when selecting another ipod type. Selecting a nano 4th results in no covert uploading at all. So in short: select any ipod but nano 4th, update covert art: covert art is uploaded but is only shown correctly in the album showcase, incorrectly in the menu previews, not at all when playing (Music note). Select the nano 4th gen, add songs: no covert art uploaded at all. Select the nano 4th gen, update covert art: Nothing happens (not even status message 'Updated covert art for x songs') Checking with lsof i get to know that Amarok doesnt even try to write the covert art database when selecting the 4th gen. ( Maybe this is a libgpod issue, i dont know. But considering the fact that libgpod now knows about the 4th gen and amarok not even seems to try to write the covertart database, im thinking it is something about amarok. Anyone any idea what to try next? Maybe amarok receives some kind of error from libgpod, but i cant seem to find it (.xsession-errors, console output running Amarok) Info: Using debian unstable, Amarok 1.4.10 from source, Amarok 1.4.10 from unstable repos, libgpod 0.6.1 SVN r2163 , Ipod Nano 16gb Orange (0xB911) Thnx in advance Tijs van Roon |

gtkpod does the same thing. Adding covert art with a different ipod type works but results in corrupted images, except for the cover-flow. Adding cover art with type Nano 4th results in no art being upload at all.
So this is most likely a libgpod bug! Moving to that forum ![]() |

I was using libgpod SVN r2153. Not sure what has changed since then but everything seemed to work fine for me using that revision.

im using revision 2163. tried 215x too last week.
Im using a 16GB maybe that causes a bug to be triggered in libgpod, no idea. But neither amarok nor gtkpod will write artwork when set to ANY type of 4th gen nano. Setting any other type will make both apps write (incorrect...) artwork. Kind of lost what to do about it.. I just build amarok from svn-source. same thing. But atleast now im pretty sure its libgpod. Probably bailing out with some kind of error anywhere along the line. Just cant see where or what. Maybe time will become the healer.. |

ok, tried 2153, just to be sure. Same thing.
Posted it on the libgpod devel mailing list.

When you compile libgpod, is it picking up gdk-pixbuf during configure? I forgot to install the dev packages first off and artwork failed to work. Only after building with gdk-pixbuf did it work.

Yes, it was picking up gdk-pixbuf.
It found the problem with help from the libgpod developers: I was missing the SysInfoExtended file. And because the developers forgot to uncomment a certain auto-guessing-capabilities part (for testing purposes) the library was unable to find the graphical capabilities of the ipod. After creating the SysInfoExtended file everything worked like a charm! (well except for movies now, but ill get that fixed. Was working before.) See: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/foru ... kpod-devel Thnx for your responses! Bye, Tijs van Roon |
