amarok 1.94 and Fedora 10 - where are my devices?

Just installed Fedora 10, which included 1.94,  after running openSuse 10.3 /amarok 1.4 for a while.

Am I missing something?  I don't have any place to configure devices (it used to be the bottom tab, and there was a config item to specify how to handle each device) and I can't seem to find any way to get my content to my mp3 player.

I looked at the wiki, faq, etc and can't see anything that seems to indicate this shouldn't be working.  Did I miss something?

First of all you should upgrade to RC1 (1.98). Then make sure to add the Devices applet in the middle pane.

Amarok 2 currently supports MTP and iPod devices, if built with the correct libraries.

OK, so I've upgraded, and...let's just say that it's less than intuitive.  For what it's worth, here's some suggestions.

It took a while to figure out that adding the applet had actually done anything - shouldn't there be some sort of feedback that it's been added, even if the widget itself doesn't have any sort of visible UI elements?

Not sure how the name of the device is set, for me it's a string of digits. It would be nice to know how much space is used and available, too.

I couldn't find out how to remove an entire album or artist - the "remove" item was only there for individual songs. Am I missing something, or is that a "coming later" feature?  Collapsing the trees each time is really annoying, too - that's 5 clicks for each song to remove them, not really workable

Adding songs didn't work great, either:  when I selected an entire album, only 4 of the 10 songs were added, with no messages as to why.  The UI dimmed while this was going on, although it did keep playing the current song.  I tried creating a playlist to see if I could add everything in it, but I couldn't figure out how to do that, either.  Sigh.  Maybe I should just go back to LPs.

Losing the ability to manage via mountpoint (not sure the exact term, but the sansa mounts as a regular USB drive) and being forced to use MTP only is a show stopper.  Was that feature implemented via a v.1 script?

Anyone know of a way to install 1.4 on Fedora 10?

If you've looked even briefly at other threads on this forum you'll find that usb mass storage device support has not yet been done for Amarok 2.

As an aside, and not anything that's your fault... why the heck did fedora ship with amarok2 in the state it was in at the time?

Honestly, I didn't look for that - I saw the list of returning vs dumped features on Marks blog, and didn't see any mention of that - at that point, I just figured it was something I was doing :)

It would have been nice to have had the option of 1.4 at least, but I guess sometimes we need to be dragged forward, kicking & screaming if that's what it takes.

If you're feeling up to it, you could always compile A1.4 yourself ;) I suspect that could be even more frustrating on F10 though!
