"Amarok
Version 1.94
Using KDE 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3)"

Maybe a typical PEBKAC:

I use the "Artist/Year/Album" collection view (BTW: I don't sense sorting in the "Year" attribute; seems to be unsorted). After a fresh collection scan, I declare several albums to "show under various artist". This works great! The complete album is moved to a new node "Various Artists".

However, this assignement is kicked once the collection does an automatic rescan and finds a new album to add.

So I have to add these albums to "Various Artists" again and again ... how to fix in order amarok remembering my decision?

When I have a problem with Amarok "forgetting" changes such as this, I go to the file system, and fix the problem there. Move all the Various Artists albums into a Various Artists folder, and I'll bet anything Amarok won't forget again.

While you're there, check out the rest of your Artist folders. Every once in awhile, the ripping program adds an extra file layer, so rather than Ogg/Artist/Album/Track, it will be Ogg/LetterofAlphabet/Artist/Album/Track. Dunno why it sometimes does this, and sometimes there are duplicates of albums. Very occasionally I have found albums in the wrong Artist folder!

One caution -- each time you mess with the file structure, you might have "dead" tracks in your playlists. Amarok will silently skip over those dead grayed out tracks, so to fix the playlist you have to delete the dead track and drag it in again.

You might lose ratings and stuff too, I can't recall.
