Ok, first off, I like the new Amarok 2. It seems to be pretty cool so far. I have not had any problems except for this:
When I plug in my iPod, I get absolutely no response from Amarok. I'm using the latest libgpod3 (0.6.0-5) and I have even tried putting the "SysInfo" file into my iPod_Control/Device/ folder. Nothing has worked. Amarok shows nothing. I know the iPod is mounting correctly, seeing as Dolphin/Konqueror are allowing me to view/modify all of the folder contents of the iPod. Am I just an idiot? It worked fine in Amarok 1.4. I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE4 and I have the Amarok 2 from the repository installed. Help! Thanks! |

There is a bug in the Kubuntu package that prevents iPod support from working. The problem is known and being worked on.
Stay tuned.

When is this issue expected to be fixed? Is the fix already in the SVN repo?

Yeah, fixed in SVN.

I'm having the same problem in Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 w/ Amarok 2.0.2. I just wanted to let everyone know that in addition to being fixed in SVN, this bug is also fixed in my imagination--I'm picturing Amarok interfacing with my iPod right now and my fantasy is going just great.
My imaginary fix is doing Amarok users as much good as a fix that sits in SVN for months without being released, so I thought I'd announce it here for everyone's benefit. If you would like to apply my fix to your copy of Amarok without wasting 17,473 hours compiling a program from SVN just to get a basic feature to work, here are the steps you need to take. Step 1: Launch Amarok. It's very important that Amarok be started first. Step 2: Plug in your iPod using the USB cable. Your distro should automatically mount it. Step 3: Close your eyes, and picture your music streaming down the cable and into the media player. Hint: Since this is your fantasy, feel free to embellish. Maybe your USB port now transfers data at 150MB/sec. Maybe a beautiful member of the opposite *** is giving you a back massage while you wait. You're in charge, so go nuts and have fun! |

You're using buggy Windows for years. So why becoming impatient?

hmmm
I wonder when this bug is going to get fixed in Kubuntu.. I have this problem too and it is one of the main things keeping me from switching to Amarok 2 (I use 1.4 from bogdan's PPA on Jaunty since I need ipod support). Alongside the 1.4 I have the amarok-nightly build from project neon installed. And in this one, just as in the regularly packaged Kubuntu Amarok 2 the situation is this (I quote myself from this ubuntuforums.org thread: When the ipod (6G) is mounted, it does show up in the middle-pane of Amarok2 if the "media" applet is activated. It has those "+" and "x" buttons next to it, but none of the buttons do anything, the ipod collection is not displayed, let alone any possibility to synch _anything_ ... I've been hearing that in order for this to work you need a version of libgpod which is > 0.7. However, libgpod4 is version: 0.7.0-2, yet no go. Now, if this bug would only affect the regularly packaged Amarok2, I'd get it. But it also persists in the nightly builds, despite this issue being fixed in SVN. Are there any Kubuntu devs around on this forum who can give more insight into this matter? Or maybe point us to a possible solution? Also, if I want to file a bug-report about this, I gather this has to go into launchpad, since it's *buntu-related?

Same problem here, both in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 9.04

I have a 3rd generation 20GB iPod. Using Kubuntu 9.04 and Amarok2. It detected my Ipod and that's about where it stopped. I can't copy anything over, it just hangs Amarok2.
I upgraded to v2.1 using the backport repositories but that didn't get me anywhere. The more reading I did on this 9.04 - Amarok2.x - iPod combination it seems that there are varying success rates out there depending on iPod model and its original OS. I'm a fairly recent convert to Linux, but it seems that in Amarok2 there are few places where you can configure iPod settings (ie specify the model, pre&post connect/eject commands) and as such you are at the mercy of the software. After several evenings spinning my wheels, I decided to roll back to Amarok 1.4 until 9.04 and Amarok 2 have had longer to soak. In 1.04 I've got it working like a charm. Rollback instructions: http://amanica.blogspot.com/2009/05/ama ... aunty.html Cheers, Bob |
