I can't seem to find anything with the search feature so sorry if this has been asked.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 I install Amarok because everyone has recommended it mostly over others and for some reason everything works find but the actual fonts in the menus and other random places don't show up. like for example i went to go check what version of Amarok it is (whatever version is in the list of add and remove list) but the whole about section is completely blank. i just started using linux again and i'm a little rusty. if anyone can give me some help i'd be very thankful. |

ah i found the issue...apparently i can't have any visual effects...that kind of sux. I'm not sure who this would concern myself getting a different card. compiz or amarok but would love to have my cake and eat it too.

wow, that's nasty! Can you run without compiz? Maybe check the Ubuntu forums to see if there's a workaround.

I had/have the same problem. I am running Ubuntu 8.10, Amarok 1.4.10, and Compiz-Fusion 0.7.8. In order to see the menus in Amarok I have to change the window manager to Metacity instead of Compiz. I think it is more a Compiz-Fusion problem than Amarok because it also happens in Keep a backup program for KDE. I am sure it also happens for other programs. I am using the Gnome desktop. I don't know if that has any thing to do with the problem. It shouldn't.
