I just did a fresh install of kubuntu, then I went ahead and upgraded to amarok 2.0 (amarok 1.4 worked fine)
But now when I press play nothing happens. Here is the output from terminal: http://pastebin.com/d72994e3e (Had to put it on pastebin since the forum doesn't allow long text in messages) I have gnome and kde on the same machine and the same thing happens with both of them! |

"sudo aptitude install libxine1-ffmpeg"
Should solve your problems

Sweet! That fixed it
Btw, shouldn't amarok depend on libxine1-ffmpeg? So it would be automatically installed if you don't have it already... |

aaaah!
How about a notification in amarok then? Like totem does, it notifies me that need "nonfree" codecs when I try opening a xvid file, and points me to how to get it. |

Yep, we had exactly that already working in Amarok 1.x, and just need to port it to Amarok 2 sometime. It's on our TODO

I have the same problem with Amarok 2 but I do have libxine1-ffmpeg.
I have openSuse 11.1 with KDE 4. The best thing is that it worked fine for couple of days. Right now I'm using amarok 1.4 which works fine (but I'd prefer 2 version). Symptoms: songs and radio doesn't work, it sees it, have no problems with library or streams. Double clicking: I'm getting notification cloud "current song title .... " and ... that's it. It's just do nothing more. I can click in any fragment of the progress bar, click play / pause -> zero response. What should I do? (i can give any other info but I need to know where i can find them, cause I'm not very best in Linux, but always do My best ) |

Hey there, I don't know if this support thread includes Amarok running on Windows, but I'm willing to take my chances.
I couldn't take any more "not having Amarok" as I have switched to Windows from Ubuntu a month ago, and installed it via KDE for Windows. I managed to run the application and import my library, but, to my surprise, the app just refuses to play my media files, it just skips over the tracks one by one and reaches the end of the playlist. I do have the necessary codecs and stuff as the same files play perfectly on Winamp or WMP. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.. EDIT: Aaah nevermind, just reinstalled the codec pack and problem solved

OpenSUSE uses the GStreamer Phonon backend by default, so installing a xine plugin will do no good, until you switch the Phonon backend (Amarok 2 uses Phonon) to xine. You might first have to install this backend, and then switch to it in the KDE settings (Sound -> Backend).

First of all thanks for response. I've reinstaled openSuse (I know, I know, maybe isn't best solution but sometimes help, especialy when it's not my major OS - I'm learning it right now, so I can really messed up with it).
But I understand what You're saying about this xine plugin and phonon backend. I suspect that it's the way of choice -> phonon (gstreamer) backend, or xine backend, and best for Amarok is phonon (and in fresh install i have it in default, so everything seems to work fine, but i can't say that i haven't problems). This is the installation that i have right now: kde4-amarok-2.0.1.1-1.11.i586.rpm (KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Desktop/openSUSE_11.1), and “82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller” drivers. I was trying to search for those settings about backends but couldn't find it, except those: Set DMA (val 0/1/2) Set Board Model (val "write model" ) Use single commands (for debugging) (val 0/1) I have only one question (or two), cause everything works right know: streams and mp3, so i don't want to bother You. Just wander do I need xine to watch movies? cause if i do i would need to change it in the sound settings like You've said, and I really don't know where should I do it. |
