How to use mp3 player in MTP mode

Sat Dec 27, 2008 4:45 pm
I've been trying for ages to use my mp3 player in MTP mode.  I would use any mp3 player that works and is affordable.  I decided to buy a relatively cheap player, Sandisk e260.  This is a common player.  It should not matter which player I have but this can be used in either MTP or MSC mode.

I figured out how to initialize the configuration.  I can realize a mounting point for the player and it (the device) connects successfully.  The 'Device' section shows a 'Playlist' of the stored media (i.e. mp3s) that are in the player.

That's as far as I can get.  I cannot play any songs.  I cannot move or create a Collection so that it would play songs.  It will 'try' to copy songs to the Collection but then it gets to 100% and opens a screen/window, "Move Files to Collection."    There's a drop-down menu shown 'Collection Folder' but only /mnt is an option.  Destination Preview displays "/mnt/mp3/nameofmusician/.nameoffile.mp3.'    But, nothing I select works.  I get an error.  "Sorry, XX# of files could not be organized."

I am close to giving up but I thought I'd take one last show and send a message to the forum.

I don't want to use the player in MSC mode since MTP should be an option.
