forced to configure?

Sat Dec 27, 2008 6:27 pm
I finally got it to automount but this was in Kubuntu 8.10.  I am using Amarok 1.4.10.

I am just trying to understand what is going on and why the application functions in this way.  I closed Amarok.  I had unplugged my mp3 player and then plugged it back in.    Then I restarted Amarok.  But, still nothing mounted.  But, my mp3 player did mount but Amarok didn't detect it and there was no indication that it was mounted by Amarok.  But, the Dolphin File Manager showed it as mounted and the option of opening the files popped up.

I opened the window but then Amarok detected the player and the files showed up in the Playlist.  I have my mp3 player in USB/MSC mode.  I thought I'd start with the easier mode first.

Can anyone explain to me why I first receive these messages while trying to select the player?:
"Devices handled by this plugin must be mounted first.  Please mount the device and click 'Connect' again."

Here is the usb / MSC mode situation:

Configure Portable Player Support:

Media Devices
Name:  sdd1 (Details):  Plugin:  Generic Audio Player

It did NOT detect the mp3 player even though it showed up as mounted in Dolphin File Manager.

Configure Media Device – Amarok

Pre-connect command:

mount /media/Sansa e260

Post-disconnect command:
[  this is blank – i.e. None ]

In 'Details':
Device information for sdd1
Autodetected:  Yes    (yeah, after it decided it was a good time)
ID:  ......etc. Etc.
Name:  sdd1
Label:  Sansa e260
User Label :(none)
Mount point:  (none)  HUH?!?
Mime:  media/removable_unmounted
