I compiled Amarok 2 from source in my Ubuntu 8.10. I compiled manually the mysql package, and installed all the required packages using apt-get and I got a 'congratulations' message from cmake, so I proceeded quite confident that it would work.

However, when I run amarok from the command line, I get lots of warning messsages and the program doesn't work as expected.

I can see the musics in my Ipod, I can play them, but can't add musics or so. I tried to look for the Seetings > Configure Amarok > Devices
but there is no 'Devices' options there. the only options I have in Configure Amarok are:
General, Collection, Internet Services, Playback and On Screen Display.

In amarok 1.4 I had a lot more options, even related to the ipod, but there was no option to set it to ipod nano 4th generation 8G, and that's why I tried to compile amarok 2 myself. I compiled the libgpod from the svn before compiling the amarok source as well...

It seems that my installation was incomplete and there are some plugins missing... I followed the instructions at:
http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Compiling:2.0
what am I missing? how can I install the plugins that are missing?

thanks in advance for any help

OS
You need to add the Media Devices applet in the context view (middle pane).

Thank you for your reply...

When I do what you suggest, I see a small ipod icon, a "+" and a "x" icon and the mount point /media/IPOD besides that. When I click the "x", the ipod section in my collection disappears and it comes back when I click the "+".  But nothing happens when I click in the ipod icon. If I try right clicking, the only options are "add applet" and "remove this media device". there is no option to chose the ipod model...

how do I add music to the ipod in this new Amarok? how do I add the covers? I tried drag and drop, but didn work...

update: drag and drop music doesn't work. but I can click in a music from the local library and say copy to ipod. that works!

now, the album cover didn't go with the musics... and I still don't know which ipod Amarok thinks mine is... in Amarok 1.4, I have chosen ipod nano 3rd generation, because there was no 4th gen option.. is that what is happening here? there, the covers would go with the musics, but didn't appera when the music was playing...

I removed all the files from previous installs of amarok
and reinstalled. now it works, but when amarok is launched, it shows the error:

url cannot be listed file:///home/myusername

what does this mean?
how do I solve this?

It opens and works somehow, but it cannot retrieve the artwork from the web anymore...

I have the same problem, but I also do not have 'context view' anywhere..

All help is appreciated as I work on ditching the 'other' OS...
