I'm still using 1.4.9.1 using KDE 3.5.10 in Kubuntu Hardy. All of a sudden today, while attempting to play a radio stream which has always worked before, I get the error message "xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers."
I get the same error when trying to play any track in my collection, in fact Amarok seems to have lost my collection. So I'm having it rescan the collection, and see if that helps. Rescanning allows Amarok to see the collection again, but I get the same error message. Nothing plays. AFAIK, nothing has changed since yesterday. I don't know if the error message and Amarok losing the collection are coincidental, or related. Any help? Searching the forum found me nothing useful. |

first, check that the stream hasn't changed anything! Sometimes formats get revised.
second, I know it's not windows and all, but have you tried rebooting? Or at least logging out and back in? Can sometimes be enough. I occasionally used to get that error if my onboard soundcard crashed (or more likely, the driver screwed up. Never investigated too closely because it was so random and rare).

The first thing I did was log out and back in, and the error messages persisted. I did find a LOT by googling on the error message, and this is what worked:
sudo apt-get install libxine1-misc-plugins By the way, when I checked youtube, I found that I had no sound at all before installing the libxine1-misc-plugins and restarting. I hope this helps someone else. Valorie |
