Hello,
I wanted to test the new version of Amarok, so I added the repository for (K)Ubuntu and installed it (I use Gnome as desktop environment, 64-Bit version). Now I stumpled across the problem, that Amarok 2 doesn't seem to recognize any ogg/vorbis files (I have encoded my music collection in this format). If I choose the file tab on the left side of the interface and navigate to a directory that contains ogg files, it is displayed empty. MP3 files on the other hand are recognized and can be played. So, does anybody have an idea, how I can make Amarok play ogg files (or maybe what's wrong with my system)? Kind regards, Jan |

I have just tried an *.ogg file on Amarok 2 and it plays fine!
Maybe you should switch to Mandriva? But seriously, version 0.1.1 is pretty old!

Sorry, I meant 2.0.1.1 of course.
Well, switching the distribution just because of one feature of one program that I just wanted to test would be a bit overreacted I think ![]() Kind regards, Jan |

The Mandriva version is actually 2.0, so perhaps there is a bug in the later version?
Have you got libogg and libvorbis installed? Can you play OGG files with another player? (They play for me on Totem).

Switch to the Xine backend for Phonon. The gstreamer one doesn't play ogg for some reason in some distros. I know Mandriva has a patch for it which is why it works there.

Thanks, this may be the right way, but when I install phonon-backends-xine, systemsettings crashes if I try to start the sound module, and so does Amarok when I try to launch it ![]() What seems strange to me ist, that the version of phonon and the gstreamer backend is 4.2.0, while the version of the xine backend is 4.1.3, so maybe this difference is causing the crash. I am using the kubuntu-members-kde4 repository for Intrepid. Kind regards, Jan |

Well, that could be the problem. KDE 4.2 is still in beta and not released yet. You might want to stay with 4.1.3 for the moment.

@marcel
Yes, that's why I am a little confused that the repository contains version 4.2.0 of phonon (except the xine-plugin), while the othe kde components/programs are version 4.1.3. Kind regards, Jan |
