Hi All
I've encountered this weird behaviour and have so far been unable to track down what might be causing it. The problem only seems to have started when I upgraded to kde 4.2 (but I can't be 100% sure that has anything to do with it). Amarok will occasionally hang between song transitions and the only way to fix it is to kill amarok and restart it. The last message from the console when it hung was: amarok(3070): Failed to lock file "/var/tmp/kdecache-steven/kpc/Amarok-pixmaps.lock" , last result = 1 I'm using the phonon xine backend, xine 1.1.16.1, amarok 2.0.1.1 and kde 4.1.96. Has anyone else encountered something similar to this? |

Just to give an update: I upgraded to the kde 4.2.0 packages today as well as kde4-amarok-2.0.1.1-20.27. It didn't help as amarok hung again during a transition two songs into playing my playlist.
On the plus side amarok quit cleanly when it hung this time so I didn't need to kill it. |

I've downgraded back to libxine-1.1.15 and have been playing my music for a few hours now without amarok hanging at all. So it seems as though the problem was caused by libxine-1.1.16.

I noticed this too but I wasn't able to downgrade libxine .
Sgmeunier do you get the hang when trying to listen to e.g. shoutcast streams? KDE 4.2.0, libxine 1.1.16.1, Amarok 2.0.1.1

We Amarok developers would really like to get to the bottom of this problem with the new libxine. But unfortunately we're already super busy at the moment with other things.
Anyone willing to help us and contact the xine devs, trying to figure out what's wrong there?

can't confirm.. downgraded to 1.14 (lenny) and it still hangs. i can very easily reproduce using flac files only.
kde 4.2.0 (debian experimental), amd64, ... regards |

On this topic, we now have confirmation from a xine developer (Miguel Freitas) that the bug is in libxine 1.1.16. The older version 1.1.15 did not have it.
You can read his comment here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180339#c42

I'm testing Amarok with a new version of libxine and so far so good.
Streams work and songs change now without pauses and the hang hasn't bitten me yet... Arch Linux 64-bit, KDE 4.2.0, xine-lib 1.1.16.2, Amarok 2.0.1.1

Hi!
I'm also having this very strange problem with my amarok lately - persistent over an update from 2.1 to 2.2 (Qt: 4.5.1, KDE: 4.2.4, Amarok: 2.2.0, gentoo system). Amarok will not play one song after another - but there is a gap of many seconds up to several minutes after the next song is already highlighted until amarok starts actually playing it. What is very strange: for another user on my pc, it seems to work just fine. Now removing just .kde4/share/apps/amarok/ doesn't seem to help - and amarok strangly seems to keep some files elsewhere, since upon restart it plays back the last song I listened to before deleting its dotfiles (Copying the dotfiles from the other user doesn't help either). I use a mysql database - which it also seems to remember over deleting its configuration files. How can that be? Where does amarok keep its configuration(s)? WHY the hell not where it's supposed to keep it? Has anybody any idea how to solve the problem? Thanks a lot in advance Tim |

Locke1: could you please open a new thread, please? You refer to a Amarok 2.2 problem in a thread about Amarok 2.0.1, concerning a libxine version that is corrected since quite some time...
Also, make sure you have Amarok correctly installed, I can't reproduce this with Amarok 2.2, nor could I previously. We have had quite some problem reports in the last few days which seem linked to Gentoo.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Apart from restarting a really outdated thread: Amarok configs are where they should be: in $HOME/.kde4/share/config/ like ALL KDE apps, not in $HOME/.kde4/share/apps/amarok So consider deleting these files. m0nk
