ipod AAC issue with 2.0.1

Mon Feb 09, 2009 2:42 am
Although I can transfer mp3 files onto my two iPod nanos (3rd and 4th gen) using amarok 2.0.1, I cannot transfer AAC files. Amarok silently ignores AAC transfers. When I try a bulk transfer containing both AAC and mp3 files, the mp3s go OK but the AACs are still silently ignored.

Strangely, amarok happily recognises and plays the AAC files both when they're on the iPods or on the local system - its just the transfer onto the iPods that isn't working.

Here are the details of my systems.

Fedora 10 i386
Amarok 2.0.1 - installed from RPM - I've tried both the regular and testing repositories.
It happens with both KDE 4.1 and 4.2

Thinking I might 'fix' the problem by compiling myself, built the 2.0.1.1 stable release from source but alas, the behaviour is identical to the various rpm versions I've tried.

Just to prove to myself that I'm not completely stupid, I've rechecked both iPods with my older Fedora 8 system running amarok 1.4.10. This version very happily continues to transfer AAC files.

Any ideas what's going on and how to fix???

Thanks,
Stefan

P.S. I've looked around to see if I can find sources to 1.4.10 or a similar old and stable release - but no luck. Perhaps I've not looked hard enough. Will I offend anybody by asking here?

Thanks for the really fast response - I'll download and compile this version and report if it fixed the problem. Don't know why google didn't find this link??.

Well... google isn't the be-all and end-all of search engines ;)

Often, searching a forum using the built-in search yields better results.

I've installed amarok 1.4.10 'the easy way' by fetching the precompiled rpms here

Code: Select all
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=1121821#post1121821

and then doing the following

Code: Select all
yum -y remove amarok
yum -y install libifp libnjb libvisual-plugins libtunepimp-extras-freeworld qt3
rpm -ivh amarok-1.4.10-1.fc10.i386.rpm \
      amarok-visualisation-1.4.10-1.fc10.i386.rpm \
      amarok-extras-freeworld-1.4.10-1.fc10.noarch.rpm

Once again, I can transfer my AAC files to the ipods and I conclude there is something strange with the AAC / ipod implementation in 2.0.1.

Does anybody else see these symptoms?
