Hi all,

I am using amarok 2.0.1.1 on a ubuntu 8.10 machine, installed from Ubuntu ppa's repository. Yesterday, all KDE related libraries were updated for my distro and after that I am not able to start Amarok again. I get the following output:

$ amarok
amarok(15380) Phonon::KdePlatformPlugin::createBackend: using backend:  "GStreamer"
virtual bool Phonon::Gstreamer::AudioOutput::setOutputDevice(const Phonon::AudioOutputDevice&) "HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog)"
virtual bool Phonon::Gstreamer::AudioOutput::setOutputDevice(const Phonon::AudioOutputDevice&) ("unix:/tmp/pulse-bram/native
alsa_output.pci_8086_284b_sound_card_0_alsa_playback_0")
virtual bool Phonon::Gstreamer::AudioOutput::setOutputDevice(const Phonon::AudioOutputDevice&) setProperty(device, "unix:/tmp/pulse-bram/native
alsa_output.pci_8086_284b_sound_card_0_alsa_playback_0" ) failed

virtual bool Phonon::Gstreamer::AudioOutput::setOutputDevice(const Phonon::AudioOutputDevice&) "default"
(15379)/: Communication problem with  "amarok" , it probably crashed.
Error message was:  "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "
bram@theobio36:~/Varsity/Work/hermaphrodite_sex_sel/src$ KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing...
sock_file=/home/bram/.kde/socket-theobio36/kdeinit4__0

Probably, it is a phonon issue, but how to find out? Sound works perfectly on any other application I use (but these other apps are gnome applications, I have to say). How could I check what is the issue here?

Without a crash backtrace, we can hardly tell you anything useful, sorry. Also, you may start Amarok with "amarok --debug" from the shell, to gather more information.

Having the same issue after upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty Alpha 5. Amarok worked fine the first time it ran, but after a right-click -> quit and trying to start it again, the same crash happens for me.

I installed:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install amarok-dbg libc-dbg phonon-dbg kdelibs5-dbg pulseaudio-dbg

And got the following backtrace:

Code: Select all
Application: Amarok (amarok), signal SIGSEGV

For me, this was solved by installing phonon-backend-xine

motin,

Thanks for the suggestion. I ran into exactly the same problem with an identical call stack.

Installing phonon-backend-xine resolved the problem.
