AFT fails when symlinking music folder

I'm looking to localize my music collection on my new laptop so I don't have to be on my LAN to play my music. Some helpful folks on #amarok pointed out that AFT should preserve my ratings, scores, etc. even if I move my collection to a new location. As the first baby step, I tried leaving my collection in the same place but symlinking to it from another folder.

Collection is currently at //server/music (an nfs share).
I created a symlink from /home/user/music to //server/music.
I changed my collection location in Amarok (1.4.10 on Ubuntu Intrepid) from //server/music to /home/user/music.
I rescanned collection.
Amarok pulled in the tracks themselves, but all ratings and scores reverted to zero.
If I point Amarok back to //server/music, it remembers stats and works like a charm.

I've put a ton of time into my ratings and I use them extensively for playlist generation, so I reaaaaally don't want to lose them. Did I do something wrong, or is Amarok misbehaving? Either way... any advice for how I can fix it???
