why i can't i get amarok to rip cds, save playlists or build a music collection?

i have just purchased an asus notebook laptop with an amarok music manager. i have carefully followed all the instructions for ripping cds and building a collection. however all i am able to do is play cds! i cannot find any options in the music manager for ripping and the 'autorun' does not come up on my screen as it states it is supposed to in the instructions, allowing me to rip a cd when i insert a cd in cd-drive ... so far all i have loaded are the 3 demo songs that came with the notebook!
i find the amarok programme extremely, and unnecessarily, complicated and cannot get even the simplest functions to work in the music manager ... what is the exact nature and source of my problem, how do i get the music files to remain on my computer so i can start building a collection? |

Have you tried to read the handbook that comes with Amarok? It gives a pretty good overview.
See in the menu, "Help", and then something like "Handbook".

I'm having the SAME problem. CDs will not play, and I cannot find any intuitive information about how to rip CDs.
I cannot run Help. All I get is: "Could not launch the KDE Help Center: Could not find service 'khelpcenter.'" According to Adept installer, 'khelpcenter' is installed. |
