I want to create a play list that will populate when the song meets any of several criteria. It was easy in the previous version (didn't need manual to figure out). I can't get it in 2.0. Further, the user guide was not included in the install (Mint KDE CE).
The proportion sliders indicate what percentage of a play list will include the chosen criteria, but what if I don't care about proportions, but rather just want it to find and group any songs that meet any of the criteria, regardless of how the percentages of each ultimately break down. Another question is how can I add the user guide, so that it launches from the menu, like it is supposed to. Thanks. |

The user guide (Handbook) for Amarok 2 is currently not yet finished. I understand that some folks are working on it, but help sure is welcome PS: If anyone wants to help, please contact our promotion team,

Mark is there somewhere to get help on the dynamic playlist? Thanks. |

There seems to be a problem with Dynamic Playlists.
Not only is it a mystery (still hoping for help), but I did a list with one simple criteria, and required that 100% of list meet the criteria, saved, and then repopulated and it failed to get all of that criteria, and added in songs that did not meet the criteria. Is anyone else having problems? |

Any help appreciated. I can't figure out how to use the new Dynamic Playlist. I want to set a few criteria, and have Amarok find all files that meet any of these criteria. The old Amarok could do this. I am sure this feature must exist in the new Amarok. Thanks. |

please remember that Amarok 2 is a work in progress. Many features from 1.4 are still being worked on. Check the rest of this forum to see if anyone else has questions already answered, then please search bugs.kde.org to see whether there are any open bugs relating to your query. But most of all, please stop posting the same question in new posts over and over. You will only end up annoying people.

I don't intend to annoy anyone. I have up till now mostly posted in the Mint forums, where it is not uncommon for the devs themselves to answer questions and offer suggestions to linuxs novices like me. I made the assumption that since the Mint KDE team included it in their release, that it was the latest, stable version and not a work in progress as you pointed out. My apologies. BTW, have you had much of a chance to try Amarok 2.0 yet? Given the number of posts you have you seem to be someone who would have some insights and tips to get the most out of Amarok. |

Not the most recent version - sadly the OS X packages lag behind a little, so I'm still on 2.0.0.
Your assumption about the stability of Amarok 2.0 is fair enough, and a symptom of the latest binary distros including it as the default version, but I can understand why they do it, particularly when KDE4 is pretty standard these days. My area of expertise is mainly Amarok 1.4.x, and that's mostly going from memory these days!

2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.1.1 and now 2.0.2 are stable releases. But Amarok 2 is a major re-design and re-think of the player, so there is a lot of stuff that is new, using features of KDE 4 that are still pretty new themselves, so there are bound to be bugs. While the above mentioned 2.0.x releases are/were considered stable, Amarok is always a work in progress, with different features at different times being more of a work in progress than others. From what little I have played around with defining proportional criteria in a dynamic playlist, what it does seems to work fine depending on your expectations, even with some blog posts out there that provide some explanation of dynamic play lists (not in a how you use it sort of way), it's not completely clear what you should expect out of it and what the limitations are. It will take some time to round out/polish the existing feature set and get the documentation up to date, and for the things that 1.4 did that are planned on being re-implement in 2.x it will take time to get all that stuff back too. Amarok 1.4 is wonderful. Maybe the best thing is to stick with that, which I used even with Gnome, and take a wait and see approach with Amarok 2.x. Amarok and K3b are two of the main reasons I decided to try KDE again, so eventually I will go with the latest and greates, but as long as 1.4 is working and more familiar to me, it is probably best that I stick to it. Thanks for your patience. |
