Hello,
I'm relatively new to Linux -  I don't know my way around it that well yet.

If I go to the included tools such as Admin/Synaptic Package Manager, it tells me that Amarok is at 2:1.4.8.
If I open up the program and choose Help/about: Amarok it says 1.4.8. (using KDE 3.5.8
There is no  provision from the package manager to update to a new version.

Is any newer version available to me?  What's involved in upgrading?
Thanks for any tips.

If you want Amarok 2.x, you will first have to upgrade to (K)ubuntu 8.10. Then you can follow these instructions:

http://www.kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2.0.1.1

Thanks Mark for the to-the-point response.

Sometimes, it seems to be necessary to update the Linux itself (as you point out),
and other times apps will install via some kind of manual method.  I am not yet adept at Linux
to know when / if either of them apply - unless I can find the info directly.

For example, I looked in the Amarok wiki, and this info did not jump out at me.
It's probably there somewhere, but if it's stated in a way that's inferred rather than directly,
I wouldn't have picked up on it.

regards,
Dave
