Not sure that this needs to go in bugs.kde.org as it is not a bug in the app, so I'll raise it here!

http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Compiling:2.0 says

cd amarok-2.0 (for example)
mkdir amarok-x.y.z-build
cd amarok-x.y.z-build
cmake ../amarok-x.y.z -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`

one of those lines is incorrect, I'm guessing that the second one is wrong and you mean
mkdir ../amarok-x.y.z-build

Robert (trying to build from source with mandriva as they seem to have stuck with 2.0 )

How so? Makes perfect sense! The first directory is simply the directory that was extracted from the tarball. The second is a bild directory INSIDE this directory. You need to be IN this directory when you start building Amarok.

But when I run
cmake ../amarok-2.0.2 -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`
inside amarok-2.0.2/amarok-2.0.2-build
I get the error:
CMake Error: The source directory "/develop/Robert/amarok-2.0.2/amarok-2.0.2" does not exist.
Either one of those commands are wrong or I'm very confused, with that directory hierarchy I need to run
cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`
to get anywhere

Oops, I see where you mean! Could well be a typo - feel free to register and edit the wiki page. Looks like someone else already reported it on the discussion page, but didn't sign or date their comment.

Robert, a while ago I wrote a blog about installing Amarok from SVN in your $HOME in a really easy way.

You could either follow these instructions directly (SVN is quite stable currently, but needs KDE 4.2), or change it a little to use your Amarok 2.0.2 tarball:

Thanks I've edited the wiki so that it works with the build directory inside the unpacked amarok dev tree.
Mark, thanks for that pointer, I use the Neon builds on my ubuntu laptop but on this mandriva it's a little more complicated! Will see how I get on ;-)
