SOLVED: I don't know what did it, but changing all the file names and song titles to not have foreign characters or special characters, running all the files through mp3check, and completely removing Amarok 2, then renaming every remaining Amarok file, and re-installing Amarok 2 then letting the scan run has finally given me a working version. The new Amarok is great and I am waiting patiently for a sort capability.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do want to get onto Amarok 2, but I'm still having the "scan stops at 98%" problem. I realize the underlying bug has not been fixed, but I'm trying various approaches. I went through my collection (all 6,900+ files) and ensured that all file names and titles did not have special characters or accented characters. I then did Amarok 2 scan starting from the terminal. It still stops at 98%, but I see many errors showing:

TagLib: MPEG::Header::parse() -- Invalid sample rate.

and:

X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
  Extension:    154 (RENDER)
  Minor opcode: 4 (RenderCreatePicture)
  Resource id:  0x10003c5

Does anyone have a suggestion for fixing these? The sample rate error is by far the most common.

TIA

UPDATE:

I ran my whole collection through mp3check and got a clean result. I ran a crc check with mp3check and got an error on every file. I removed all special characters and accented characters from file names and titles. None of this worked. I divided my collection (which was all in one directory with just about 7,000 tunes) into arbitrary 500 file directories. Amarok 2 finally did a full scan. BUT, all my tags appear empty. Nothing will play. I can't reorder the collection and view by other order than artist, year, album. I can't sort the playlist, it appears to be random and uses the file name and not the title. This is probably due to the empty tags? I am going to remove Amarok and all configurations and try a re-install, but how do I make sure that all the database stuff has been removed?

ANOTHER UPDATE

I did manage to get most of the files to play. There are still a few problems involving titles left with bad directory names. I can't figure out how to clear the database so I can do a fresh new scan. Amarok 2 looks like a great piece of software if I can just delete the database and restart the scan.

TIA
