Hey,
I have been having an issue with the Amarok 2 interface on Kubuntu Intrepid since an update from 2.0.0 to 2.0.1. I do not believe that the update caused the issue, though, because later updates have not affected the problem. I am not a Linux expert, but I am also not an amueratur; I have used Linux for around 5 years, predominantly using Arch Linux. Amarok has been my primary music manager since I've been using Linux because I fell in love with its unique approach to it's job, and the recent loss has been ruining my music life. I looked into the problem and try to diagnosed it with simple common fixes such as removing config files in case the configuration settings had gone awry, but deleting the config files had no noticeable effect on the situation. I've searched online hoping the find similar cases, but all of my searchs have been in vain. I hope that someone here can tell me what the problem is and the easiest fix. I have attached a screenshot of the interface to this post, but for those of you who cannot see it, I will describe the problem in words. The only visible element of the interface is the upper most toolbar which contains, on the left hand side, the glossy play, stop, back, and skip buttons and, and on the right hand side, the volume bar, and in the center the progress of the current track playing. The three columns that show the music collection, track information, and the playlist, while room is reserved for them, are not visible. It seems that I can not do anything to fix the problem while the program is running because none of the settings are for the visibility of these columns. I can not even play music in this state. Any help is appreciated!
  Thank you,
  Selby

This fixes it (make a backup of the data first):

rm -rf $HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok
rm -rf $HOME/.kde/share/config/amarok*

I already tried this and it didn't help, but I tried it again and it still didn't fix the problem. Do the Kubuntu developers store the configuration files for Amarok 2 somewhere else? Thanks for the quick reply.

Could you try running amarok as a different user? If amarok looks normal as another user, then try a comparison of the .kde/share/ directories in the respective users' home directories.

If you have an older Kubuntu version, the directory could be ".kde4" instead of ".kde".

Other than that, I'm pretty much sure that doing the steps above is going to fix the problem, as it is caused by leftovers from an old config (we've had this question many times here already).

If nothing helps, search your harddisk for "amarokrc", then you'll find the location.
