Amarok doesn't save settings

Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:07 am
Upgraded to 2 a few weeks ago and love the new look of the program.  I have experienced a problem, however, in that when boot up my computer and KDE loads, amarok loads the same, initial, settings each time.  It remembers my collection and the last playlist just fine, but it forgets the applets I have loaded and the sizes of each section is skewed.  If I add the applets I want and resize the sides, it will remember it just fine while the program is open, but if I restart my computer, it will reset to that initial layout I just mentioned.  Interestingly, if I change the settings, close and then start the program up again without restarting my computer, it will remember the settings (until I reboot/restart KDE)

I'm running KDE 4.2.1 on Gentoo and am currently using Amarok 2.0.1.  I haven't seen this problem in this forum on via a Google search.  I was going to submit a bug report, but I figured it was worth posting here first.

It sounds like you might have permission problems with one of the Amarok settings files. Please make sure that ~/.kde/share/config/amarok* are owned by the user running Amarok.

I had the same issue for a bit.

Quick fix..
1) Exit Amarok
2) sudo chmod -R u+rw ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/*
3) Restart Amarok and change the desired settings
4) Exit Amarok again, re-open it, and see if they stuck

Hopefully that works for you, it did for me.
