First off, I'm a big Amarok fan. The product has been great.

I recently updated to the beta of Kubuntu 9.04, which includes Amarok 2.0.2.

Overall, the interface changes look real promising (though the gray is a few shades darker than I would like, making it look slightly drab, IMO). The new interface gets rid of the columns, making for a tighter display, and allows for more features present -- it looks like it'll be quite nice. (I'm eagerly awaiting the return of good podcatching support. If it gets on par with Banshee it'll be super exciting. -- I'm using the console program podget for now, as I loathe GNOME.)

I seem to be rambling. I'll get on to it:

I'm a big fan of http://SongFight.org/ . The premise behind the site is that a song title is given, and people from around the Internet all try to make the best song fitting that title. This means you could have 30+ songs, all with the same title, the same album, and different artists. The MP3 files have missing, odd, and incomplete tags, so if you're planning on keeping any of them, you almost always need to clean up the tags.

To do this properly, I need the ability to select a group of songs and specify that they all have the same title. Earlier versions of Amarok made this a pleasure to do.

It seems that the loss of this feature is related to the interface disabling tags that are already set by individual files in the group, as well as the title defaulting to the file name. To do any sort of larger-scale tag clean-up, though, I need to overwrite existing tags -- including titles.
