Well this is pretty strange, last night I was happily playing music with no problems, and today, I woke up and find out that Amarok won't play *any* song, at first I thought it was one of the songs I had deleted and hadn't removed it from playlist, but I manually located the file and they're all there, it won't play any song at all... so, any ideas?
Oh yeah, and after I try to play a few songs, I get an error message that says something like this: Too many errors found on the playlist. I'm using Amarok 2.0.1 Ubuntu 8.10 KDE 4.1.4 |

Check your Phonon settings:
"systemsettings" -> Multimedia (or Sound) -> Backend It's possible that an upgrade in your distro has uninstalled the backend for some reason. On Linux you should be using the xine backend.

except as far as I can tell there is no "backend" option or field in the sound settings in ubuntu.

You are probably looking at some other system settings (e.g. GNOME's). What you want is the KDE system settings, whose binary name is literally "systemsettings".

ok, I realise that this is not a general problem, but I can't install kdebase either, it complains that dependencies can't be met. Am I the only gnome user that has this problem?
Before this is says that I am installing something that is not authenticated. This is in swedish but you get the picture: "dependent on: ** but it will not be installed" kdebase: Beroende av: dolphin men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: kappfinder men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: kdebase-bin men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: kdepasswd men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: kfind men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: konqueror-nsplugins men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: konqueror men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: konsole men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: kwrite men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: libkonq5 men det kommer inte att installeras Beroende av: kdebase-plasma men det kommer inte att installeras |

As recommended, I mv'd .~/.xine to ~/.xine.bak and started Amarok, which created a new .xine and now all works. |

I solved the problem by installing 'phonon-backend-xine'.
