Memory Leak in Cover Manager?

Mon Apr 06, 2009 4:11 pm
Dear all

With amarok from svn (yesterday) in KDE 4.2.2 and Qt 4.5 on Xorg 1.6, gentoo x86_64 I get

Image  to  Image

as soon as I open the Cover Manager you can watch how the mem usage of X increases rapidly.

If you need further information (I don't know what exactly generates the preview for amarok) just ask, else I guess this is one bug worth fixing before the release.

If you know how to use Valgrind with leak-check correctly, then such a session log (during which you would use the Cover Manager) could be very helpful.

Guess I do, even though it is a while since I last used valgrind.

http://www.fuchsnet.ch/stack/amarokleak.txt

which is more or less a session consisting of starting amarok, opening the cover manager, closing it, closing amarok.

But I don't see anything helpful in it. Should I rerun with --leak-check=full, or do you have other ideas?

PS: as you ask for a valgrind report, I guess you are unable to reproduce it by yourself, is that correct?  As the mem usage is finally in X, it might of course be something third party, but it's definitely (and 100% reproducable for me) triggered by the cover manager.

I now played around with xorg settings, and tried a different driver (nv instead of nvidia).
The problem occurs as well with a rather vanilla xorg configuration.

Same here with radeon and radeonhd drivers.
It's been happening for more than a year now, but I thought I was the only one having it.
The report I opened: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16772

Hi,

here it happens too: Gentoo box, Intel onboard gfx, xserver 1.5.3 and 1.6.2, KDE 4.2.4

I've filed the valgrind output in the bug report. Hope that helps...

BTW: I can't cancel the cover scanner. Anybody else?

Regards,
Andreas
