No audio: HDA ATI SB does not work

Fri Apr 24, 2009 8:29 am
Hi everybody,

just installed Amarok 2 and I can't play any files in my collection (nor mp3, or flac or whatsoever).

I got this error:

The audio playback device HDA ATI SB (ALC 880 ANALOG) does not work. Falling back to default.

Audio streams work; I can play mp3 in rythmbox!

pleeeeease help!!!

I have the exact same sound card, though amarok works fine for me. I wish I could tell you what to do, but Amarok2 I guess hides it's settings somewhere other than where I used to be able to access them (Settings->Configure Amarok), namely the sound output engine is what you want to look at. I'm looking for those settings right now. As a related note, so far Amarok2 sucks, but maybe I just need some time for it to grow on me.

That is supposed to be not one, but several to many sound cards.  There is a long list of stuff about it in either the Kubuntu or Ubuntu forums.  Up grading helped me, but I'm not sure if it was the upgrade to 8,04 or 8.10 that cured a lot of problems.
