I'm running Kubuntu 9.04. After installation sound is fine on every application I have tried except Amarok.

Since sound is working elsewhere I figure the problem has to be with Amarok, so I am unsure what I can do to troubleshoot that.

Any ideas?

Try closing every program that runs some sort of sound alert or anything.  I discovered sometimes, that a program will grab completely control of the sound system.  Since my sound always reverts to my built in intel card.
