Hi,

I have just installed Jaunty and automaticly I got Amarok 1.4 upgraded to 2.0.2.

in Amarok 1.4  my database containt over 95.000 songs in Amarok 2.0.2 it is missing a lot of songs and also the artistnames and titles are gone.

I have done multiple rescans without any succes.

I dont think this is a dublicate of bug 180575 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180578 as described in the bug Amarok / scanner crashed. It didnt with mine

Please help me

Kind regards,

I agree! Some files have empty author/name entries. To load them, I have to go to "Files" menu, and to make them searchable I have to add titles/performers by hand.

It is totally stange since for example Kid3 application easily finds tags boths id3v1 and id3v2 in one of the files I am looking right now, while Amarok ses nothing...

Same problem here...

my amarok version is
Code: Select all
 $ amarok --version
Qt: 4.5.0
KDE: 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2)
Amarok: 2.1-SVN
$

i built it today, 10th may...lot of files are missing and it did not include flac files into the collection...

till today i had the stable version of amarok (ver-2.0.90 ) and that did not have this problem.

oops!! false alarm! the problem was with my file and directory permissions....

however...there are a few issues...

for my library to work...i had to delete the contents of ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok (amarok was closed when i did that)
having done that...i started amarok again and it rescaned my collection again from scratch...and this time it scaned correctly.

i suggest other posters to set their permissions right...and remove the contents of ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok directory and try to build their collection/library again...

ISSUE#1.
however if i remove or add new folders / files to the dir its watching, they r not added or removed and update collection also doesnt make a difference...

for example i removed a folder and updated the collection..when i updated the collection, the files inside that album entry in the library were gone , but i had to delete the album by right-clicking it and deleting from the library...

once i removed the album from the library...i moved back that folder to the original position...and updated my collection...but it did not add that folder into the library...i had to close amarok ... delete the database at .kde/share/apps/amarok and let amarok rebuild my library once again

ISSUE#2
another issue is that amarok does not add the audio files that are directly under the directory to be scanned ...

for example if i have set amarok to watch collections folder as /home/user/Music then if i have mp3 files directly in music directory then they are not added in library. however if i have folders like deep purple/ and i have files in there , then they are added and shown in the library.

ISSUE#3
when i click an drag a song/ablum from the library to the playlist...the context screen shows a lot of nice options...but in this SVN build...the options in the context screen remain to be seen even after the the file has been moved...the only way to remove the options is to move another file from library to playlist...

the screenshot attached should illustrate what i m trying to say:
Image
Notice how the wikipedia is showing the info...under the options screen... i have already moved the file to playlist...but that screen just does not go away...i have to move a file across one more time for it to go.

i just had a very similar problem. some of my collection is not showing up, because amarok messed it up :(
I disconnected my harddrive while amarok was still running (but not playing any file) and after it was connected again the files in my playlist were messed. They had no file description, length or size and all tags and covers have been erased. Also (of course because the proper flag was set in options) my local collection was gone.
After that I rescanned the folder and the albums that were in my playlist have NOT been reloaded. So I loaded them manually and I came across the same result: All tags nstuff deleted!
When I check these albums with a program like mp3tag though, it shows me that all files seem to be okay and all tags are actually THERE. Quite confusing :D

I don't know if this is a bug, maybe I'll try your idea with deleting the database and let it rebuild again... it only seems as if the files are scrambled for amarok only. I'm glad I made a backup right before this incident... ;)

Amarok messed up its database (BUT NOT YOUR TAGS), when the drive is not connected. Fixed aeons ago.
Update to latest.

AMAROK DOESN'T ALTER ANY TAGS IN YOUR FILES WHILE SCANNING!!! IT ONLY WRITES TAGS, YOU UPDATE BY EDITING THEM.
