Ok guys I am going to try to describe my problem.

I just installed Ubuntu on my home compuer. The one program I rememberd from about a couple years ago was Amarok. So It was the first program I installed. Well, here is the problem. I cannot get my sound to work with it. But the system itself HAS sound, I get startup sounds, and if I try to play the SAME mp3 in Totem Movie player, it works.

The way I installed Amarok was soley through the "Add/Remove Programs" program in Ubuntu. Do I need to build it with specific commands to work? Please help. I would love to get Amarok working with sound soon! Thank you in advanced.

Dieter:

You got it exactly right - Gnome desktop, Ubuntu Jaunty 9.0.4 and amarok 2.0.2

I've used amarok for years on previous Linux installs so I was kind of surprised when I had problems.

Any info will be helpful and I'll search the forums some more.

Does amarok refuse to play tracks with error messages or is there no sound (amarok plays, but you don't hear anything)?

I'm not on Gnome and I don't like Ubuntu but
-check, if you have the xine backend for phonon installed
As far as I've heard the gstreamer backend is buggy.
-update to amarok 2.1-beta1 (2.0.90 in Ubuntu)
-remove pulseaudio (although I don't have any troubles using it on openSUSE)

Greetings

hi

you should find if you have xine-lib and phonon(kdelib) installed or not...ask your distros support forums if you dont know how to find it out...and if its not installed then install xine-libs and phonon...these two are responsible for sound for amarok

see this for more info...
