Downloading Amarok

Sun May 10, 2009 10:28 am
I am trying to download Amarok for Windows. I have the installer and it is supposed to be included "on KDE" in the installer. But what the heck does this mean ? There are many packages listed on the installer and none gives any indication at all of having Amarok or audio packages in general. Am I missing something or should there be a proper description of which package Amarok is in ?

The Amarok packages haven't been updated for the latest stable KDE release (as of time of writing). The last time they were was for 4.2.1. If you're installing release 4.2.2 or later, you won't see amarok on the package list. Either wait and hope someone updates them, or install amarok from 4.2.1.

Beware though, amarok on windows is still quite buggy.

Thanks but I'm still totally confused.

I am given a choice here:-

"Amarok is included in the KDE on Windows Installer which you can download at windows.kde.org. Or directly: kdewin-installer-gui-latest.exe via winkde.org "

but don't understand the difference between the 2. Also neither give options for downloading older versions, only the latest installer. How do I get the previous version ?

Well, take for what it is: a choice:)

- You can either go to the website: http://windows.kde.org, where you can find the link for downloading the installer
- or you can use the direct link to the download he gives you

Also I would not advise you to install a previous version: KDE and it's applications are evolving software, so earlier versions tend to be obsoleted quite fast. This is not Windows where you get new software only every 3 or 4 years and have to wait almost as long as that for bug fixes ;)

Especially regarding the Windows versions of KDE and Amarok 2, you are best served with the latest versions as those are the best available at release time.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

OK,
so I'm perplexed like the guy who started this topic.
and i'm sorry, but when he asked directly about why even though the Amarok download page for Windows says "Amarok is included in the KDE on Windows Installer" I don't see anything that looks like Amarok setup when I look at the files on my C drive/programs/KBE.
the answer was cryptic at best. like you know, "you can't get there from here."
So i went to the mafia site, kept clicking, then finally see all these files below.
do i just click the first one and it downloads, via KBE automatically, or are there still more hoops i need to jump through?

You can find all the necessary instructions in our wiki:
