Help with music collection

Sun May 10, 2009 11:49 pm
I am new to Ubunto--about 3.5 weeks now.  I have opted to use Amarok due to so much praise. I have tried and tried to mount my iphone--which I have finaly figured how too--and build my music library from an extra drive I have which has all of my music. I have followed the instrucions under the help menu. Before I forget, I downgraded to 1.4 which I have found easier to use and which has allowed me to mount my iPhone. Anyway, I cannot view my music collection and later noticed that my mp3 are not found when I did a search. Are there other file formats Amarok does not play? how do I allow all music to play? How can I view all my collections in the same format I was able too in itunes, windows explorer, or in Nautilus? There is no tree view, I only have two window panes--One is reflective of the tabs on the left side and the other is music I placed into a play list.

Thanks

Seems you have mixed up Amarok 2 and Amarok 1.4, which doesn't have the panes, you're looking for.
This happens, if your distribution doesn't seperate KDE3 from KDE4 (the usual suspects ;-))
Remove all files starting with amarok under $HOME/.kde/share/config/ and remove the folder $HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok.
Start amarok 1.4 and it will come up for a fresh setup. Enter the folders containing your music and let amarok build its collection. Your iPhone will appear under mediaplayer tab and your collection, surprise under the collection tab.

Important for all who perhaps also read this topic
I often read the suggestion "Erase your amarok files", although it's not clear what distribution is used. (Here it's Ubuntu)
Always check, if you have a folder called .kde4, like openSUSE does, in your $HOME before erasing .kde/share/config/amarok* and/or .kde/share/apps/amarok. Erasing the files in .kde will destroy your amarok 1.4 configuration and database/statistics here, which you can later import into Amarok 2.
So check twice.
