Hello everybody,
I have a strange problem. If I try to start amarok with my normal user it crashes at very early state, so I added a new user "test" and amarok starts (when I'm logged in as test) without any problems. I had installed previous versions of amarok but even uninstalling (unmerging) every instance of amarok and reinstalling amarok2* doesn't solve the problem. I also tryed to delete the whole ~/.kde* folders but the problem remains. Now something about my System: I'm using Gentoo, kde-4.2.3, amarok-2.0.2-r3. Here is the console output for my normal user: ~ $ amarok amarok(21639)/kdecore (trader) KServiceTypeTrader::defaultOffers: KServiceTypeTrader: serviceType "PhononBackend" not found amarok(21639)/kdecore (trader) KServiceTypeTrader::defaultOffers: KServiceTypeTrader: serviceType "Amarok/Plugin" not found Object::connect: No such slot MainWindow::showStatistics() Object::connect: (receiver name: 'MainWindow') amarok(21639)/kdecore (trader) KServiceTypeTrader::defaultOffers: KServiceTypeTrader: serviceType "Amarok/Plugin" not found kbuildsycoca4 running... kbuildsycoca4(21963) KBuildMimeTypeFactory::createEntry: Missing kbuildsycoca4(21963) KBuildMimeTypeFactory::createEntry: Missing (More of this "Missing ... " messages) kbuildsycoca4(21963) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry MimeType in ".hidden/kommander.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). kbuildsycoca4(21963) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/usr/share/applications/djvulibre-djview3.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon). (More of this "not compliant ... " messages) and than nothing. With my test user: ~ $ amarok amarok(26725) Phonon::KdePlatformPlugin::createBackend: using backend: "Xine" InnoDB: Unable to lock /home/test/.kde4/share/apps/amarok/mysqle/ibdata1, error: 11 the InnoDB error isn't critical! So far, I hope you can give me a hint how to solve this problem. thanks Mathias |

Remove $HOME/.config and $HOME/.local, or back them up somewhere. This problem is not related to Amarok2.
Btw.: Avoid creating a user/folder/file called "test" in UNIX. It is a program here and can cause strange behaviour. Greetings m0nk

Thanks for the hint with the "test" user, I deleted the "test" and added a "foo" user.
Back to the problem. I moved the whole folder /home/mazze ( the home folder of my normal user) to /home/mazze.org, created a new one, copied the .bashrc .bash_profile .bash_logout fom my "foo" user in it, changed the owner and guess what is still does not work! It seems the problem is NOT in my home directory. I have no idea where else user related date is stored. Greets mazze |

Really strange.
There are additional folders and files under /tmp and /var/tmp. So probably you should also remove them, but as root and not being logged in as mazze. Remove the $HOME folder and create a complete empty one. Don't copy the dot files over. Log in as mazze. Start amarok in the console to see the output. If it doesn't work start another one, dolphin f.e. I would say, there is something wrong with the permissions of user mazze. Give as much info as you can. I don't think, this is the right forum here; so let's try to solve it fast. m0nk
