Amarok on Ubuntu: No mp3 playback

Fri Jun 05, 2009 5:47 am
Hi there everyone,

I've got a fresh install of Ubuntu 9 and used the application finder to grab amarok and the necessary dependencies.  I've got the codec pack that allows mp3 playback, but when I attempt to play any of my media files(mp3's), the bottom shows that it's playing "Playing: (He'll Never Be An) Ol' Man River by TISM on....", but there's no progress bar for the playback.  If I press stop, it gets listed as a recently played track.

Could someone give me a pointer as to what I might try to do to get it working?

thanks,

Make sure to use the Xine backend in Phonon, that nothing is muted in Kmix and that you indeed have the libxnie1-ffmpeg package installed

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Do you have sound in other applications like Dragonplayer or VLC?
Are you running Gnome or KDE?
If it is the latter, you should check that there is nothing hogging the sound, flash has that nasty behavior sometimes. Also, make sure you are not using Pulseaudio in Systemsettings -> Multimedia, as this will not work with the Xine backend.
