Hi, I noticed there are still problems with collection in Amarok 2.1. Here are the infos:
1. I installed Amarok 2.1 on ubuntu 9.04, 64bit, KDE4.2.4. Installation is done from the repo as instructed on Amarok web-page, download section 2. I put 3 folders with 3 or 4 full albums in Music folder and make Amarok monitor changes in that folder 3. Artists and Albums appeared as expected. But, after closing Amarok and starting it again, I noticed couple of songs from an album aren't displayed. I restarted Amarok again and now one of artists (and all his albums) were missing. I tried purging settings for Amarok, start from scratch, but the problem occurs every time. Sometimes I get two "Unknown" artists with "Unknown" album in collection which doesn't contain any songs, or an artist's name is displayed but an album is missing or an album doesn't contain any songs etc. 4. Amarok even moved some of my songs from one folder into another and changed id3 tag (artist section) Any advice in this regard? Thanks EDIT: Just purged (couple of times) Amarok and all settings, installed from the kubuntu repo again and this time it actually worked But, some people still have this issue, so any info what could be the cause is welcome.

I was about to post about this.
I am having the same problem. Songs displayed under the wrong artist, artists missing, songs missing, songs under the wrong album, etc. etc. etc. I double-check each time, and the REAL tags are in fact correct. Desperately looking to solve this critical problem.... thanks |

Well, the solution has been given above:
remove your database folder which should be ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/mysqle/, restart Amarok and rescan your collection. As this will erase all your ratings, you should consider a backup first
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

I just love repeating that same solution every day...I also enjoy being told to alter the behavior of the rest of the system to fit the quirkiness of other applications.
I have my music on a USB drive. It's sometimes connect, sometimes it's not. Fix it so this works and doesn't mess up. I also do not like that it keeps creating a ~/user/Music directory every time it starts and then selects that one as my collection directory. The permissions are quite correct...it just seems i have downloaded alzheimersroK instead of amaroK. Zuck -------- The Programmers' Corrollary 1. Write the documentation as to how your program should function 2. Code. 3. if documentation does not match function...repeat steps 1 and 2, in that order. If you start with 2 and proceed to 1, therein lies your issues...you don't know what your program is actually supposed to do...and usually wind up with problems. 4. Gain respect from your users and self-satisfaction that your code works as intended. ~anonymous |

I completely agree.
That is not a solution. Respectfully, I would ask the developers to fix this show-stopping bug. |

Updated Amarok to 2.1.1. At first, everything worked OK. I added some songs to Music folder and used "Organize Files" to let Amarok rename files according to their tags and put them in their respective folders. After that, the problem mentioned above appeared again, some songs aren't displayed anymore and tags got messed up. This is really annoying

I started playing with collection with the version 2.1.1
Adding a folder to the main folder and clicking apply works ok, it scans and it won't mess up anything (with a file manager). I added a folder which was based in the main music folder and i just ticked it to be included also worked well. Removing the folder with the amarok's collection window messes up everything. I was never clicking to do a full rescan since it messes everything up. |

I'm sorry I saw this thread too late. I had already posted my version of this problem at
http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/t ... 228.0.html This is a serious and very unsettling problem. As I asked there, how do I go back to Amarok 2.0? |

There was a discussion about this issue on #amarok channel on freenode. Devs are aware of it and jefferai noticed some kind of problem in mysql behaviour, so I hope this will be solved in the near future.
However, I noticed that Amarok is behaving OK if you NEVER touch "Rescan Collection" button (as well as "Update Collection") and not use "Organize files" feature. Just start from scratch (i.e. remove mysqle folder as Mamarok suggested in a previous post) and let "Watch folders for changes" do the job. If something is missing or displayed after deleting just wait a little or restart Amarok.

i'm having some of those problems mentioned above.
1. my usb hdd is not always connected (not always gets connected on system start) so i virtually lose all the meta information from my playlist. (in this case all the information transferred to last.fm is useless ****) 2. having the above mentioned problem i have to rescan my collection as it is *not* automatically refreshed when the usb hdd gets connected. after the rescan my collection lacks some artists (seem rather random to me which artist is in the list this time and which is not) those two problems are freakin annoying. i hope you guys get those bugs/misbehaviour sorted out. greetings

I can't come close to being able to successfully add all my files. With Amarok 1.4 I was able to use a mySQL server to keep track of the files. The built in SQLlite was ridiculously slow, but a full blown mySQL server could handle it reasonably fast and Amarok 1.4 would let me connect to the separate mySQL server.
I see no option to use a separate DB engine in Am2.1.1 - I'm curious to know what the limits are for the database collection system and what is it using? The most I have ever been able to get it to collect is around 67,000 files without crashing. I have to add them a folder at a time to even get to this point. After that, when I restart Am2.1.1, it usually looses the collection entirely in the GUI. I can go into .kde/share/apps/amarok/mysqle/amarok and see that the database files are there and haven't shrunk, but the GUI has a zero count on my local collection. It is very frustrating as it takes the better part of a day to scan the files only to have them disappear. No, I don't touch rescan or organize. All I am doing is adding 1 folder at a time to the collection settings. Other notes: Am2.1.1 seems to ignore mp3's that do not have tags filled out. IE, if the mp3 only has a file name, but the ripper didn't fill out the internal mp3 meta info, it's like not even there. Am1.4 would at least use the info from the filename and add it to the database. ( running Kubuntu 9.04, Dual AMD 2.5 Ghz CPUS, 2 Gigs of RAM- TYAN Server board) |
