Hi all,

I'm running Jaunty on my Dell XPS M1330. I've just upgraded my Amarok installation to 2.1 from 2.0.2, following the instructions here: http://sathyasays.com/2009/06/07/amarok ... 04-jaunty/

This has mostly worked, and I can run Amarok 2.1, play all my music and listen to last.fm radio stations.

However when I start amarok I get the warning message "Last.fm cannot be reached. Please check your firewall settings" and the lyrics applet doesn't work: "Lyrics were unable to be downloaded. Please check your internet connection: Unable to contact server." This all happens even as I'm streaming a last.fm station.

I'm not sure what could be driving this, but any suggestions much appreciated!

Addenda: IIRC when I was using Amarok 2.0.2 I could make a successful test connection to last.fm (but of course it didn't scrobble). Now I can't even do that.

Best,

I don't know about the last.fm issues, scrobbling and radio work fine for me and I don't get that message, but the lyrics applet displays the same "Lyrics were not able to be downloaded. Please check your internet connection: Unable to contact server" message. Lyricwiki isn't down or anything, and I'm not sure when this problem began, but it was working fine back when I used 2.0.2, and even the 2.1 betas.

I'm also on Ubuntu 9.04, and I'm using 2.1 from the same repo in that link.

EDIT: Also, the Wikipedia applet doesn't work, it gives the message "Unable to retrieve Wikipedia information: The process for the http://en.wikipedia.org protocol died unexpectedly."

Same problem here.
Last.fm, Lyrics and Wikipedia are not working and all of it did with 2.1 Beta (2.0.9).

I've installed amarok 2.1 from the kubuntu backports on ubuntu 9.04.

EDIT: And now it suddenly works, all of it, although I haven't changed anything.

Further to that, I can't even edit the track details using Amarok, all I get - and I've restarted, restarted the computer etc - is the attached screenshot. What's going wrong? Something seems seriously broken. Perhaps the repository I got this from is seriously wonky?

OK, I'm dumb.

Thought things through and realised that the mess of errors suggested something hadn't been updated. Initially I had only installed amarok from the kubuntu PPA and not installed the other changes to kdebase etc. Upon installing all of the patches in kubuntu PPA amarok now seems to work: I can fetch lyrics and successfully test my login to last.fm. I guess the scrobbling works but I haven't checked yet.

You may be right, because it magically started working for me too, after I restarted my computer everything was fine. I don't restart my computer often, so maybe I updated a bunch of kde packages from the Kubuntu PPA, and I needed a restart.

Heck, even my iPod works in Amarok now, and it never worked under in Amarok under Ubuntu, even with 2.0.90.
