I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04. I Use XFCE4, not KDE. Before Amarok 1 was working fine for me.
Sound is playing fine in Firefox and Last.fm app so I don't think it's because the volume control is down In Amarok it played the song but no sound is coming out the speakers. I read this thread (http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php?topic=16273.0 from 2009) (and this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=550439 from 2007) and this (http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/suse-l ... marok.html from 2005)). The guy there was suffering the same as me but was able to fix it by uninstalling phonon-backend-gstreamer (and make sure he had phonon-backend-xine) installed. That didn't work for me. I got this the next time I start Amarok 2.0.2:: Phonon: KDE's Multimedia Library The audio playback Intel HDA (AD198x Analog) does not work. Falling back to HDA Intel (AD198x Digital) And again, it plays but without any sound. More alarmingly, in Amarok 1 the Amarok Settings had lots of options to fiddle with but in Amarok 2 you don't have that. How can I see what engine I'm using? |

Ubuntu package for Amarok 2.0.2 is buggy per se. Update to 2.1.1!
Phonon does the sound in A2, so you take your settings there, or in 2.1 from within Amarok. Pulseaudio removed or moved to the end of the list? Search after Amarok 2.0.2 and Ubuntu 9.0.4 and you'll get more topics regarding this problem. And please don't follow threads which are older than the software you're using (the ubuntu and suse thread are 2 respective 4 years old, so it's for Amarok 1x). m0nk

I "can't" upgrade to 2.1.1. I'm using apt on jauntu (ubuntu 9.4) and to get the latest 2.1.1 package I have to pull in LOADS of unstable kde libs which I don't feel to safe about.
What other options are the to try to fix the problem then? There must be a way to get Amarok to play with the options of Phonon. |

Have you removed phonon-backend-gstreamer and pulseaudio? On Ubuntu 9.0.4 pulseaudio blocks the audio device. And install phonon-backend-xine.
Don't know how all the other Jaunty user updated their A2 to 2.1.1, but it seems to work. But it's your decision. m0nk

The alternative (for Ubuntu Jaunty) is to install Amarok 2.1 - see http://sathyasays.com/2009/06/07/amarok ... 04-jaunty/
You'll need to modify synaptic sources, import the PGP key, and then install the missing package (to get sound working with pulse audio): libxine1-ffmpeg as per http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php?P ... ic=17189.0 |
