Amarok 2.1 I am not sure if this is a bug or a planed behavior but it can certainly be an annoyance. When editing tags with an external program (e.g. EasyTAG), amarok shows the edited track as recently added. As a matter of fact you don't even have to change a tag, just "touching" the file to change its mtime, results in amarok showing it as a new track. The reason this is annoying is because from time to time you may need to do some changes (e.g. adding genre where is missing or correcting it) and it is much more convenient to do it with a specialized program. Considering that when the file url remains the same, this is not an addition but a modification and it would be nice not to pollute the recently added with changed files. |

touch -m doesn't cause any updates of the database. And I can't see any disadvantages out of updating the db after editing tags. That doesn't affect any filtering and seems a bit pettyfogging to me. But I'm willing to learn.

I noticed this when on EasyTAG preferences de-selected the preserve modification time and modify time of the containing directory.
In detail: Just changing the mtime of a file (including tag changes), does cause any immediate update to the collection not even via Tools->Update collection. Changing the containing directory mtime, causes the behavior I just described. Collection is updated and files with modified times show as recently added. Basically I am trying to learn the details of Amarok 2.x behavior and I am not sure if this was on purpose or not. I personally like to be able to quickly see the actually new files on the collection via e.g "added:today or added:<1w" versus any files that have just been changed. I am sure one can argue about it and certainly it is a minor detail. |

As written above, editing with external tools doesn't affect searching after "added:whatever" on my installation.
