Hi All.

I can see that other people have had this issue, and seem to have it resolved, but I'm still suffering the same old issues with Amarok2 and scanning the collection on an external USB drive.

Ok, on a fresh install of Amarok2.1.1, deleted all the collection.txt, rc files, databases, mount the external drive with Dolphin, open Amarok, set the collection folder under /settings/configure/collection, uncheck 'watch for changes' & 'scan recursively' and then press 'scan'.

My collection gets built, and everything is fine and dandy, turn off the **** on TV, I'm listening to 'My Chemical Romance' and life's really good, for a while anyway.

Same KDE session, not unmounted the external drive, add another track to the collection, press update (or scan, I've tried with both), and the 'scanning' text appears for a second in the titlebar on the bottom of the Amarok window, and whoosh, my collection's gone.

Press files tab, navigate into my collection, pick a random song, plays ok, navigate to files with Dolphin, right click 'play with Amarok', plays ok..  Try to press 'Scan' again, nothing, just a quick flash off 'Scanning' by Amarok, then it stops, no collection.

To repair, I need to delete the [.kde4/share/apps/amarok/mysqle] folder, and also from [.kde4/share/config] I have to delete 'amarokrc' to force Amarok to rebuild the collection.

I loved 1.4, and wasn't an Amarok2 fan, but the interface and appearance is growing on me, so I want to persevere to get this sorted.
I'm aware that this is probably a path issue, or a mount issue with HAL & Suse or something, so I'm not Amarok bashing, and genuinely need help to get this sorted.

Thanks in advance.

Why do you uncheck "watch for changes...?
And really bad unchecking recursively! So you check all subfolders manually or what?
And what is collection.txt?
And which version of KDE are you using exactly?
And what filesystem is on your external disk?
And why do you mount the external disk through dolphin?
Doesn't the device notifier mount the disk automatically?
I'm also on openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3rc3 and Amarok 2.2 with my music on external vfat disk.
I don't have these issues at all. But I never use distribution's amarok. The delivered mysql version is too old, libgpod is too old...
