Amarok 2.1.1 unable to handle music collection on Samba/CIFS share

I store my music on a network harddisk. As Amarok obviously is not able to use KDE's great kioslaves (why???), this network share is mounted by an entry in /etc/fstab with the path /network. Any program can, without any problem, access the files this way like on a local hd.

Only Amarok always fails, I've tried it numerous times with deleting all config files: Amarok can be setup to use the collection in /network, does an (incredible slow) scan of the 4000-something songs stored on the drive, and then ends up forever with the display "local collection - counting" in the left pane.

That's very sad, as it renders Amarok completely unusable. Copying the files to the local hd is no alternative, as I use the network hd as UPNP server for my home stereo, and UPNP is something Amarok seems to have completely left out :(.

Any hints?

I'm too lazy to repeat it over and over again, so
If you're on Ubuntu, read this (and try a search on the posts before):

I don't quite see the connection between my problem and the posts you linked to. Moreover, I'm using openSUSE.

Sorry of tiring you and sorry for using this forum in order to try to get help to solve problems with Amarok, once my favorite music player.

As I wrote: if you are on Ubuntu
You are not, so this post is not relevant for you and there's no need to read it.
And local collection sounds like a database problem.
Are you using packages out of the repository?
Have you made an update from 2.0.x recently?
Which version of mysql are you using?
Is the directory $HOME/.kde4/share/apps/amarok/mysqle empty?
What happens, if you scan some local files?
Which files/directories have you deleted to get a clean amarok start?
Ever started amarok from console with -d parameter?
Check the  logs in $HOME/.kde4/share/apps/amarok.

Btw. The more infos, the better the support. That's what I would have said, Iif I wasn't too lazy.
If I wasn't not willing to help you, I wouldn't have answered.
And smb:// is technically no real mount, f.y.c.

Just tryed it again - copying the music collection from the network share to the local drive. I'm sure this worked some time ago. But contrary to what I said above, Amarok won't scan the collection correctly on a local drive, too. After 100%, it just hangs :(.

Sorry if my first reply was a bit harsh, but I had pretty negative experiences with Amarok devs feedback to user responses after the controversial 2.0 release.

I use OpenSUSE, both the "factory"  and "11.1  stable" flavours. I follow all Amarok updates as published by openSUSE, currently 2.1.1.
Drawer "mysqle" is always empty?!
I deleted all "amarok" related files in .kde4/share/apps and .kde4/share/config.
The logfiles in Amarok-drawer show that all files on the network hd were seemingly scanned (at least ends in ZZ Top ;).
Local files work without any problems.

CIFS is mounted with
//192.168.178.20/WD-10EAVSExternal-01/ /network/harddisk cifs guest,_netdev,uid=root,gid=users,nobrl 0 0

I didnt't know before about "amarok -d", shows at least one error:amarok:
[ERROR!] Tried to perform query on uninitialized MySQLe
amarok:  Initialized thread, count== 3
amarok:  [ERROR!] Tried to perform query on uninitialized MySQLe
amarok:  [ERROR!] Tried to perform query on uninitialized MySQLe
This on an Amarok installation which has according to the logs already scanned the collection on the network drive, shouldn't be my job to initialize a database?!

And, I have to add that, "smb:/" might not be a real mount, but it is a common description both used by Gnome and by KDE, so disregarding it is IMHO not a sign of Amarok's userfriendlyness. However,  I  didn't use that way to access the network drive, even if I  would have expected a KDE app to be able to use this kioslave.

Seems like
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=193481

But I don't find any more mysql-packages from openSuse which could be installed... and as Amarok does not give any hint what is wrong the problem is even more frustrating.

Which version of amarok are you using? I'm currently using 5.1.34 with Amarok 2.2-GIT on openSUSE 11.1. I never used openSUSE/BUILD Services packages for amarok. But I remember, that I had trouble with mysql in openSUSE 11.1.
So check, if you have the following packages installed:

mysql-client-5.1.34-29.1
libmysqlclient16-5.1.34-29.1
libmysqlclient-devel-5.1.34-29.1
libmysqlclient_r16-5.1.34-29.1
libmysqld-devel-5.1.34-29.1
mysql-5.1.34-29.1
