Amarok is cutting off the first second of each song. Any idea how to fix this or what could be the problem? I'm using Amarok 2.0.2 with Ubuntu 9.04.

Well, you should upgrade your version then, Amarok 2.0.2 is quite old and outdated. There is a much newer version, Amarok 2.1.1 available in the jaunty-backports repository.
Also, make sure you use the xine backend in phonon.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Thanks! Updating Amarok seems to have fixed it.

Oops, its not fixed after all.
It seems to be a problem with switching tracks. When amarok switches between two tracks on a playlist, it cuts off the beginning of the second track. If I just double click on the second track nothing is cut off. |

I'm joining fluffy bunny on this one, but to me it only happens to flac files. It has nothing to do with the Amarok version, since it was present in Amarok 1.4, 2.0.2 and 2.1.1.
It seems to be a problem with the Xine engine from what I find by Googling. I'm also using Ubuntu 9.04, so maybe the version of Xine in that version of Ubuntu is buggy? Has anyone got any good solutions to this? It's really annoying, and prevents me from enjoying flac songs with Amarok. Edit: Oh, btw, Amarok may cut up to 30 seconds here, so maybe I'm describing a different problem than fluffy bunny's? |

Amarok cuts off the first and last second of my songs sometimes... It happens 5 times in a row, then I play some other songs, then go back to the ones it was cutting off and they were fine. When I used the gstreamer backend it never happened, however, now I'm using OSS with xine, so that may be the problem.

OSS??? Sorry but this is deprecated since ages. ALSA-->xine-->phonon-->amarok. And remember sound is not "produced" by amarok. Sometimes disabling/removing pulseaudio should help in general. FLAC issues are handled by .xine/config by increasing engine.decoder_priorities.flacdec: m0nk |

I decided to use OSS instead of ALSA because for some strange reason ALSA would occasionally jump my volume from 50% to 134% blowing out my eardrums...
OSS has yet to kill my ears, so for now I feel the need to use it. Besides that, it works perfectly. OSS 5.0 might be in the works soon too |

OSS 3.x - yeah, but not 4.x OSS 4.x beats ALSA in some aspects, so that is why people could use it on Linux. BTW OSS 4.x is viable alternative for FreeBSD and Boomer - new audio subsystem for openSolaris is based and API compatible with it.
