Amarok database issues

Thu Aug 20, 2009 1:44 am
It amazes me how Amarok can regress so significantly since the 1.4x series (it was the bomb back then). It is just a PITA all around now and is one of the buggiest pieces of software I have used in a long time.

Here is an example. Look at the playlist on the right:

As you can see, Sheryl Crow's songs are listed under The Smashing Pumpkins and the album is "Tangerine Dream" which is actually another band. I have some more like Dexy's Midnight Runners having an album called "the Best of Sting and The Police", with the tracks actually being from the Cranberries. You get the idea.

All of this is after a fresh install of Amarok 2.1.1 on Kubuntu 9.04. Before I upgraded from 2.0, I deleted all amarok config files in my /home directory, yet I am still getting these corrupt databases. It is really annoying (nothing has changed in a couple of months since the last time I tried Amarok). The same thing happens on both Kubuntu and Fedora -- it is Amarok's problem, not something I am doing wrong.

Will the Amarok 2.x series ever get it right?

*sigh*, OK, let's explain it again for the umpteenst time:

Amarok 2 is a complete rewrite with a totally different codebase, so don't expect feature par in 2.1.x. You are comparing apples with oranges.

Then, the database is not located in the config files, but in it's own folder in ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/mysqle/, unless you erase this folder, you will not have an empty database.

What you are reporting is a known bug from 2.1, which is solved since quite some time in 2.1.1, *when* you are indeed starting with an empty database only.

I will abstain to comment the rest of your rant...

You just might want to read that before doing any further comments: http://www.catb.org/%7Eesr/faqs/smart-questions.html

As well as checking the bug database on http://bugs.kde.org, whining about already reported bugs will not make them fixed by miracle, this is hard work done by people who invest almost all their free time in it.

FWIW, all the things you are whining about are fixed in 2.2-git since quite some time...

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

We understand that you might be frustrated, but I strongly recommend against using such topic titles. (Refer to: )

That said, I have edited the topic title to a more neutral one.
