I'm trying to build Amarok in Kubuntu Karmic and cmake is failing because it can't find the mysqld package. I was told this is provided by libmysqlclient-dev, which I have installed. The current version, libmysqlclient16-dev, has the description "empty transitional package" in the repositories. I thought that might be the problem, but installing libmysqlclient15-dev instead didn't fix it. Any ideas?

No idea, did you ask the Kubuntu developers? We actually are not involved with distribution developement like Kubuntu Karmic, which is currently in Alpha stage, and you are trying to compile on an unreleased distribution.
AFAIK there is no user support for that unless it is actually released, so you will need to ask the Kubuntu folks or just wait for Karmic to be actually released.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

I'm not getting a response over at the Ubuntu forums. Can someone tell me a header file that Amarok tries to include from this package (Embedded MySQL)? I can do an apt-file and see what package it's in.

I'm pretty sure I had this problem just the other day, and actually logging in as root fixed it. Hope it helps.

You need the packages for mysql (plus dev), not only for the client-side, but also for the server. Should be called something like mysql(-dev) or libmysqld-dev.
Although I don't know, if it makes sense to compile for an alpha, if the stable version 9.0.4 is still unstable. m0nk

Don't, just don't. Logging in a system as root is wrong and very bad practice. Add the users to the audio group should really be enough, but logging in as root will never actually solve something, but expose the whole system to security risks. Don't do that and never ever suggest this as a solution, please!
