Okay, so I decided to upgrade to 2.2 beta 1 in lieu of 2.1.1. So far, so good. I haven't played with it much yet, but so far it seems to be a great improvement. The collection had to be rescanned, but since that seems to have fixed "amarok can't read the tags of some of my files" I can live with that. My saved playlists are still there, which they weren't during the 2.0.x to the 2.1.x upgrade.
Just a minor question (more might be coming after I've played with it a bit more...)...how do you move the main toolbar to the bottom? The toolbar with play, pause, the progress meter and so on I mean? I know it's supposed to be possible since I've seen screenshots with it at the bottom but no matter what I do it refuses to move anywhere. I can rearrange the rest of the panels to my liking but that main toolbar is stubborn as a mule into where it wants to be.

It is unlocked (otherwise I wouldn't be able to move the playlist for example)...but it still refuses to move no matter where on the toolbar I try to "grip" it.

I can move it by grabbing it from the far left, if you're using the Oxygen widget style then the "grabbable" part will look different from the rest of the toolbar, the mouse pointer will change its shape when you hover over that part.

Either it depends on the window style or the layout of the other panels. but I'm not able to drag the toolbar to the bottom (old or ng doesn't matter). There's only a handle to resize it, which doesn't work obviously.
I'm using Bespin style, toolbar-ng and layout like A1, with albums on the top left, collection bottom left and playlist on the right side. m0nk

Well, now it works...and I've done nothing to make it work either. It just started to work when I logged in this morning and tried again. Apparently it decided to fix itself. Go figure.

Then you should complain to them, it is, according to our devs, an ugly hack that causes problems galore....
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

You should read the posts more careful. I didn't wrote that I use the modified skin, which is indeed a hack and must be activated seperately, but the window style.
And btw. there's no need to use the hack anymore. m0nk

Fine, now I managed to drag the main toolbar to the bottom. How can I move the play etc. buttons to the right so that they are under the playlist?
BTW: I have truncated icons over the left and right pane (home folder, something with a list and something like bookmarks). My "small icons" are set to 22x22 and those icons seem to use the "small icons" size - but it seems the columns for the icons have a fixed 16x16 size or so? Edit: With the update to 2.2 Beta the database got recreated or so - but now I have a lot of duplicated entries in it and the old problem that albums and songs are associated with the completely wrong artists. I hope this will be fixed with the final version, it really is no fun, to always lose the database information when something in amarok is updating. The new interface looks more mature! |

Sorry, you can shuffle the panels, but not the items in the panels. :-)
Can you please post a screenshot of your current layout? m0nk

Well, what a pity, then I'll hope that will be possible in the next version. With the controls on the left and the playlist on the right it's like having a broken remote for the tv and is forced to stand up to switch channels. At least with the controls at the bottom the tv isn't across the whole room anymore. Screenshot: http://imagebin.ca/view/NSgHFdCw.html BTW: Is it normal that I now have a duplicate entry for Unknown (Unbekannt) with the same entries? I have deleted the database and it got rebuilt but the duplicat entry remains pointing to the same folder and files. |

The icons are indeed bookmark icons. But they should be stars like the in the ratings.
What happens to the icons when you resize the panel horizontally? Is the entry for Artist/Album/Track Unbekannt/Unbekannt/Unbekannt? Then it's a bug. If not, check your tags. m0nk

Even when I make the panes as wide as the whole screen the bookmark icons are truncated.
The tags for the entries under "Unbekannt" are not set, that's ok, they should appear there. But not twice. |

So all tags are empty?
If these tracks only differs in their filenames, it's the only possibility to list them. Perhaps you should at least set tracknumbers. And the icons seem to be wrong. Are you using a custom icon-set, not oxygen? m0nk

I do use the oxygen icon theme. I looked into /usr/share/icons/oxygen/ and the star with the blue dot is the standard oxygen icon bookmark-new-list. Or which icons do you mean? For male icons I have female substitutes.
Should I report the cut icons to bugs.kde.org? #### I understand that the tracks that only differ in their filename and have empty tags have to be listed that way in "Unknown". What I don't understand is why I do have the duplicate entry "Unknown", both "Unknown" are exactely the same, when I edit a file in the first "Unknown" collection folder the "amarok is doing something" sign appears in front of the second "Unknown" collection folder and vice-versa. And the track changes in both "Unknown" collection folders because both collection folders are the same. Looks and behaves just like a symlink in a filemanager. Another strange effect: in "Various Artists" I now have as many albums in the database for a compilation as the compilation has artists/songs. E.g. I have 9 amarok collection folders "Chartboxx" in "Various Artists" and all 9 show all 9 titles of the compilation. I don't understand how Amarok2's collection works: Those 9 titles are in different directories for different artists (filesystem) and originally (first database scan) shown under the artists' names. When I tell Amarok2 to show the compilation "Chartboxx" in "Various Artists" it creates those 9 album entries in "Various Artists". And when I edit the tags of those tracks they vanish from "Various Artists" and are sorted again under the artist's name. And some other albums like "Greatest Hits" are shown in "Various Artists" in one album though they actually are different "Greatest Hits"-albums by different artists. Sorry, but at the moment amarok makes me a little sick: E.g. I have the Robbie Williams album "Greatest Hits". 19 tracks. In Amarok2 it is in "Various Artists", all tracks 1 - 19. Track 4 also has an entry in category "Robbie Williams". It's not a duplicate track in the file system but a duplicate entry in Amarok's database. Further more in "Various Artists" in the album "Greatest Hits" do appear three other tracks from other artists' "Greatest Hits" albums. Although the tags are correct (seen with another application) the artist tag is empty in amarok. When I open the metatags for the whole "Greatest Hits" album the overall artist tag contains "Robbie Williams - though three tracks are by other artists, though their tags are set correctly (but shown empty in amarok). When I use "Don't show in Various Artists" for "Greatest Hits" - the tracks vanish completely. The empty album "Greatest Hits" persists in "Various Artists", but the tracks are nowhere. They only reeappear when I reclick on "Greatest Hits" and choose to display in "Various Artists". How on earth can I bribe Amarok2 to display the "Greatest Hits" album of Robbie Williams in the Robbie Williams category and the other "Greatest Hits" albums in the other artists categories? Drives me mad...
