Interesting... My problem was that I wanted to use a cleartext password but it wouldn't "remember" any of my login information each time I hit apply on the last.fm configuration page. I had to enable kwallet to get things working.

Hmm, it looks like we have slightly different problems then. I can clearly see my password stored in ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc.

For anyone else running into the same problem I've been (password is stored in plain text, Test Login button never completes, songs are not scrobbled):

On a whim I decided to change ignoreWallet=yes into ignoreWallet=true to match the other lines in ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc. The next time I entered my Last.fm credentials, Amarok asked me whether I wanted to use KWallet. I declined, and Last.fm (Test Login button and scrobbling) has started working.
