I hear now other reports from users with the same issue. I also updated and since i have amarok already installed aptitude helds back those libtag packages (wasn't so yesterday). I'd say wait until the dependencies are fixed.

taglib >= 1.6-2 does not work with libtag-extras0, only with libtag-extras1. amarok 2.1.85 won't work with libtag-extras1, amarok 2.1.90 is needed. Rather than keeping taglib back, you let apt remove amarok. Since you use development version of the distro, you should know about similar problems and don't panic when they happen or how to workaround them. Anyway, this problem is material of Ubuntu forums.

I didn't let apt remove amarok, it got past me. Amarok is KDE, used in more than just kubuntu. I do expect problems and I thought I took the right steps, I didn't panic and I tried everything the moderator told me. As for similar problems I did a search and there were none. Let's not start a war here. I found a problem which later was confirmed by others, that's all.

My point is that you are probably not ready to use distros in development yet. You know, next time you might "lose" important system package and this may render your system unbootable. Educate yourself more about apt or whatever you are using there and be more observant next time. It won't hurt. |

Point taken, that is why I backup daily. On Kubuntu forums my motto under my icon is "Always Learning" BTW this issue has been resolved by KDE. If I was not ready to try something new, I would not be using this distro. I've got two computers, this laptop I love to experiment on and an eMac which has stable Unix based OSX 3.X to fall back on. Both are backed up to the hilt by separate external HDs. I've been using computers since MSDOS 2.7. I'm 64 years old and I'm ready for another firefight, been there, done that. Sorry, I don't take criticism well.

Update. ?Downdate? Crashed this morning after another update and a restart. Go figure, you could probably tell me what I did wrong, go ahead LOL. After restart all I got was a black screen. Not even a chance to get on as single user, nothing. I went to my other computer downloaded Kubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6, burned the disk and started again. With my backup and restore I was up and running in a short time. If you want to give me lessons on apt, I'll learn, I have several pages of rules that I've downloaded but nothing to cover this. Always learning, Maybe I could find a book?

Beware that you are using a development version, so it is not unlikely that something turns very bad for some time. In this case confer Roderick Greening how to repair your system.

Thanks Blizzz, that's what MoDaX has been on my case about. See above ^ It's kind of hard to fix your system if you can't get into it in the first place. I don't know all the ins and outs of Apt or any of that, other than how to use it in a normal fashion to install or update. I'm probably missing something when it comes to reading the fine print during an upgrade, I'll either learn or I'll crash. Still trying, thanks again.
