Can someone point me to a good collection tutorial?

I recently moved from Winamp/Windows to Amarok/Ubuntu 9.04 and I feel like Amarok has huge potential but there's a bunch of things about the collection management that I just don't get.

-I use EasyTag to update tags, but the changes don't seem to be reflected in the collection, what gives?

-I prefer album view, and I have a mix folder with ~90 different songs in it all with the same 'album' field in their ID3 tags, yet they show up as 90 separate albums all with the same name. I've tried rescanning my collection, updating the collection to remove and re-add them, but they always show up at 90 separate albums. What the deuce?

-I've tried selecting no files and rescanning my collection, only to close the window and Amarok still has all my mp3s in its collection. Why?

-I've manually made some "mix folders" with favorite songs from other CDs, so I essentially have the same mp3 copied multiple times. This doesn't seem to play nicely with the collection manager. Can I get around this?

I get the feeling there's a bunch of cached information somewhere and Amarok is trying to outsmart me and it's f-bomb frustrating. Any help would be appreciated, I'm really trying to like Amarok here but its not making this easy.

Well, the Amarok manual is still work in progress, so you will have to be patient for that one.

Also, could you please tell us which Amarok version you are talking about? Go to the Help menu and check 'About Amarok' to get the version number. If it reads 2.0.2 then you should upgrade ASAP, since Amarok 2.1.1 is available in the jaunty-backports repository since quite some time.

As for the problems you describe, there are a few collection bugs that are eliminated partly in 2.1.1 and almost all in Amarok 2.2, to be released in a few days.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Help -> about Amarok

Amarok
Version 2.1
Using KDE 4.3.1 (KDE 4.3.1)

(Build Date: Jun 2 2009)

Most excellent, I look forwards to the release of Amarok 2.2. If I still can't figure some of this stuff out after upgrading then I'll be back with more questions.

Thanks for the help! :)
